Pros: bruising protection, cushioning, attractive color(all black)
Cons: shoe strings, tight fit, clunky
The Bottom Line: Great second pair, and for trail running. Not for races or if you only want one pair for all conditions.

| rookshark's Full Review: New Balance 806 All Terrain Series Running Shoes |
I bought these shoes six months ago, mainly because:
1. I am always looking for more running shoes
2. These were inexpensive $55
3. The color
4. I needed some trail shoes
5. The 800 series reputation
I will include everything here, good and bad, because you never know what might matter to someone, right?
Pros: Right out of the box, tags and such promoting these shoes were made in the USA. I did not know that when buying them (online), but it was kind of cool to see that. Cushioning is right where it should be, even for someone of rather large proportions such as myself. No worries about rock bruises, or pretty much anything you step on while you run bothering your feet. However, that being said, they are not too rigid either. There is a reason why this series of shoes continues to be so popular after all.
Cons: I do some mini marathons and such, but nothing as a dedicated trail race. Even so, I would think the weight and feel of these shoes would be better suited to just training. The most I use them is for 7 miles or so at at time. Good strength training for the feet, right? The shoe laces that came with mine have a nasty habit of not wanting to stay tied. Nit picking? Yes, sure, but you want to know it all, right? Oh, and this is not so much a con, but these shoes fit tight, even for me after months of wear. Not terrible, but something to consider if buying online or sight unseen. Go up 1/2 size definitely if you normally use other brands (this is my first pair of New Balances). I noticed in another review traction was an issue. Not so for me, but again, most of my running is not serious trail running. More city running with gravel, dirt, bad pavement, etc.
So, overall, I have been not so much surprised, but happy with my purchase. Knowing that this is what, the sixth version of this shoe at least, and that many people talked about past versions even for non-trail running, I expected the same. And....I got it. If I could only have one shoe to run in at a time, this would not be it, but it serves its purpose, and is nice to have when I need it (wet conditions, more off road, rougher terrain).
