I have really long feet for my overall size. I'm 5'4" with a size 9 shoe. That means that most tennis shoes look like snowshoes on my feet, but the New Balance W 442 tennis shoes actually make my feet look much smaller and more proportionate with my body. That means enough that I'm on my third pair of New Balance low profile running shoes.

To be honest, I do not consider these running shoes. I'd say this New Balance design falls under fashion tennis shoes. There's not much to them (hence they look much smaller on the feet). The sole is thin, there's no padding to speak of, and there's hardly any arch support at all. So, someone is just asking for achy feet if they buy these for sports.
On the other hand, the New Balance W 442 are super light weight. It feels almost like being barefoot in these tennis shoes. But, they offer some protection from the ground or floor. This makes them really comfortable for day-to-day wear or to go down to the mall.
As far as the various color combinations, these come in a lot of different choices to match with casual clothing. Some are the basic white with one color swatch - white and blue or white and green for example. Some are more fashion colors like I bought with pink and gray and plaid on the inside. The sample photo has me scratching my head. I know New Balance does some plaid with this shoe, but I've not seen it down at Rack Room with the plaid in the stripe (just inside the tennis shoe). And, frankly I would not buy it with the gray and white combo ad plaid on the outside. Different stokes I guess. But, I think the other color combos and the plain colors versus plaid look better.
For anyone wanting a cute fashion tennis shoe that feels good all day for low impact activities, the New Balance W 442 is a nice pick. For women with big feet and even long and narrow (since the strings will adjust well to narrow), this tennis shoe will make your foot look about two sizes smaller. Yay on that.
