Please note, my review is for the CT790W model shoes which are solid white color. The photos used above are of a non-white 790 model.

This review of the NEW BALANCE CT790W is based upon comparing them to the other shoes in my recent collection including (in alpha order) AVIA ARCHROCKER 333, CABELA'S X4 TRAIL RUNNERS, COLUMBIA TAGORI, FILA TREXA RUNNING SHOES, MERRELL PULSE, NEW BALANCE MR966BR COUNTRY WALKERS, NEW BALANCE 414 MR414SR RUNNING SHOES, NEW BALANCE MT461GG TRAIL RUNNING SHOES, NEW BALANCE MW780BR COUNTRY WALKERS, SALOMON XT WINGS, SKECHERS AFTERLIFE, SKECHERS ENERGY VITALITY, VASQUE MANTRA, and the VASQUE VELOCITY VST GTX.
Comfort: Below Average
Comfort: Unfortunately, the toebox of the NEW BALANCE CT790W Walking/Court Shoe is either too small or the wrong shape for my feet. I find this to be true of other New Balance shoes I have and only with New Balance brand -- the general size is correct, but the inward side of each toe box pinches as if it is a triangle shaped pointy shoe (but it is not). I inserted and removed a hard object into each shoes Big Toe area to allow me to wear these for short times. These shoes are not a joy when going for long walks because the toe box begins to feel cramped. On the plus side, everything else about these shoe is OK. There is no mesh so they are a little resistant to wet weather (but they are not waterproof). The heel feels good. The tongue padding is very thick, although with these shoes the laces have no give. These are good in cold weather. There are no mesh vents, so not the best in hot, hot weather. The NEW BALANCE CT790W Walking/Court Shoe feel very stable for walking. The nice thick soles offer complete protection from feeling every pebble on the sidewalk.
Durability: These are not waterproof but the uppers appear to be partially leather. Quality heavy solid build. The lace loop holes are part of the upper and have been plenty strong (and the laces are strong too). These have a nice thick sole so that only the rubber section (sole/treads) need to touch wet ground.
Style: These are my first New Balance shoes and they are classic solid white in style. Completely classic and traditional. They have the look of a quality high end low ankle cut basketball court / general walking shoe for an older person. They are not so sporty. There are minimal black accents on each side of the uppers, and a thick black stripe at the center of the tonge and back heel. The tonge has the text NEW BALANCE and an image of a backetball. At the heel facing back, there is a New Balance logo N engraved in the thick rubber. The thick rubber soles appear to be made up of mostly soft rubber and a heel area of harder white plastic. Unfortunately, the harder white plastic section of both soles have yellowed a little over time. The most unique feature is that at the back upper of each heel, under the text NEW BALANCE is "790" encased in a clear plastic bubble a full inch or more wide. I can wear them easily to indoor casual events, but I stay away from dirt and tall grass. As noted above, the soles are plenty thick giving height.
I wear the NEW BALANCE CT790W Walking/Court Shoes on short errends on dry cool days. If you try them on before buying and they fit you well, I can recommend them for dry weather use. Because of the toe box, try a full size larger than your normal.
