Pros: Excellent food, Prime rib, Seafood choices, Service, Atmosphere
Cons: Could be pricey to some, Busy
The fact that the parking lot is packed just about every night should give you the idea that New England Steak and Seafood is a very good place to eat. Offering some really great steaks and seafood, this restaurant is really worth the stop for lunch or dinner if you are in the Mendon, Massachusetts area.
Where is it?
Situated along Route 16 in the Town of Mendon, New England Steak and Seafood is located about halfway between the larger towns of Milford to the east (and the adjacent I495) and Uxbridge in the west (and the adjacent Route 146). Its about 20 minutes from Milford and about 10 minutes from Uxbridge.
Even though the parking lot does tend to get packed, Ive never been able to not find a parking space. Theres plenty of paved and unpaved parking surrounding the building and its all free. I suppose on a really busy night, you could park in the car dealership lot across the street.
There can be a wait at times, especially on Friday and Saturday nights so its best to call ahead for reservations, otherwise you might be waiting for a while. If you go earlier in the evening or on a weeknight, the wait isnt quite so long.
New England Steak and Seafood is open daily except for Tuesdays, when it is closed. They only serve dinner on Sunday and Mondays and are open for lunch and dinner Wednesday through Saturday.
From the outside you can tell that New England Steak and Seafood has a bit of the rustic feeling going with its design. Its almost like a cabin out in the woods with lots of natural wood throughout. In the colder weather wood fires help keep the building warm and add to the feeling of a rustic camp. Inside the decorating reinforces this theme sort of a rustic homey kind of feel.
Ive always had good service at New England Steak and Seafood, from the point where you come in right through your meal. Everyone is very pleasant and even during busier times, the waiters and waitresses are very attentive making sure that you are enjoying your meal and helping you out.
Well, when I go to New England Steak and Seafood, I almost dont even have to open up the menu, I already know what I want and thats their prime rib. To me, its one of the very best servings of prime rib that Ive ever had (and believe me, Ive had it in plenty of places).
Besides the prime rib, there are plenty of other options for steak and seafood lovers. There are sirloins, filet mignon, and ribs along with some burgers and chicken dishes for the non-seafood types along with a number of different pasta and dishes. Ive strayed from my prime rib at times and have enjoyed the sirloin and the beef cabob entree that they have. All of them have been good, but I honestly like the prime rib the most.
For those who love seafood, theres an even bigger selection of seafood in all of its forms. There are the pasta seafood dishes along with a bunch of seafood dishes. My partner loves the Lazy Mans Lobster Casserole where theyve done all the work for you with the lobster and serve the meat with bread crumbs and butter. Hes also gotten the full-blown lobster and really liked it. My parents raved about the scallops and friends have enjoyed the haddock.
All of the dinner entrees come with cheese and crackers, bread, salad, potato, rice or pasta and a vegetable and it makes for a very filling meal. The portion sizes on all the entrees are large and youll probably end up leaving with a doggie bag.
Should you want something a little lighter for dinner, there are entree salads, but really if you are coming here go for a steak or the seafood!
There are a number of appetizers to start off your meal. These include those that are found in most places like nachos, potato skins and boneless buffalo wings. Oysters, clams and steamers are also available, as is shrimp and calamari. The portion sizes are decent and more than enough for two people and almost good enough for four people.
While Im not a chowder person, my partner loves the clam chowder here and almost always gets a bowl to start his meal when we go. Theres also onion soup, seafood chowder and a soup of the day available.
The dessert menu includes a cake of the day, some cheesecakes, bread pudding and an apple fritter with vanilla custard. If you like apple go with the fritter, its excellent and its big enough to share.
The lunch menu is mostly a shortened version of the dinner menu, though its lacking many of the steaks and seafood choices from the dinner menu. Dont expect to find the prime rib there either during lunch.
Expect to spend a bit more than your typical restaurant. New England Steak and Seafood is a nice place with some great food and thats reflected in the prices on the menu. We usually spend around $30 per person and thats without much alcohol.
Appetizers average around $10 each while the entrees run anywhere from $15 to $30 (and more for market price items). The desserts go from $6 to $8.
Price for lunch are about a third less than the dinner prices.
Think of New England Steak and Seafood as a special kind of place to visit. We dont go often, but we know that when we go, well enjoy ourselves and have a very good meal.
Weve gone to New England Steak and Seafood a number of times on our own, with friends and with family. We tend to bring others on important occasions as the restaurant is a nice place to have a meal and Ive found that everyone enjoys the items on the menu.
Weve always had good service when weve gone and been impressed with the waiters and waitresses. They keep the meal well paced and make sure that you are enjoying your meal and that everything is okay.
Honestly, Ive never had a bad experience here and I really look forward to having a meal here and I really love their prime rib.
If you are looking for a place to have a nice meal with some great service and a nice atmosphere and youre in the area, New England Steak and Seafood is a great choice. Its perfect for a quiet meal together or for a group of your friends and family. The food is excellent and the service is great you wont be disappointed.
