For me, little cuts happen all the time, every day. I’m an artist of many mediums. I sew every day, so(ha, ha) I get a lot of little nicks and slices from my shears and rotary cutter, not to mention pricks from needles and pins. Then I work in the sculptor lab at school, welding, cutting, pounding: wood, metal, cardboard, you name it name it! All the nicks, cuts, slices, and splinters both metal and wood are murder on my hands, and to say it shortly my hands hate me.


Putting band-Aids on these many different injuries is a joke; not just because of how small they are, but the band-aids don’t stay! My hands are constantly moving and the too big of band-aids always end up loosing their stick and fall off, exposing the injuries to infection and the potential to become worse. It’s a terrible predicament.


My solution came in the form of a small bottle: ‘New Skin. LIQUID BANDAGE. First Aid antiseptic liquid bandage.’ I’d heard about it years ago from a life-long friend who was on the swim team and cheer squad. You can imagine how well a band-aid stays on a blister when in water. That was years ago, I wish I’d listen then, I could have been loving it all this time instead of suffering with so-so band-aids. I next heard of it just before I came down to school. I was struggling to keep a band-aid on my thumb and cut a customers fabric at the same time. The woman jumped in to tell me how, when she was a ballerina band-aids are a waist of time, and New Skin was the only thing to stay put.


So knowing I’d be murdering my hands with my art classes, my sewing and the inevitable dangers of student life like paper cuts and typing blisters, I went on down to Kent’s and bought a pack of the praised product. It was buy one get one free, about $5 dollars, for two bottles of .3ozs.


I had a few small scrapes when I got it, so I tried it out. I was surprised by the strong smell of cloves as I twisted off the lid. This doesn’t bother me much, as reminds me of my mom. The sting however was, well lets’ just say I swore under my breath. Being a first responder, I thought ‘Ok give it a chance; I’ve heard it praised by friends, strangers, and other medical personnel. It’s must be good enough that the sting is worth it.’ The sting faded a few later; the smell lingers for a while. (I smell clean, that as far as my concern spans)


So I let it dry, still smelling a little odd (oh well). Because it dries clear, the wound it still visible, but now protected form further invasion of infection! That’s a main point in healing. Protect from further infection.


Another thing that I love about New Skin, I get real bad stress zits, I’m talking open sores here. So I had a thought, why not try this? I dabbed a few of them, let it dry and then covered it with make up. It worked, I love it. It makes me wish that they made this sort of thing with a skin tone tint. That would work great for me, because I tend to pick at myself with our realizing it.


For me this stuff works great, just what I needed. It flexes with me and stays put, till I pick it off. I would recommend it for all those who get a lot of small injuries like I do.
