| bforchet's Full Review: Newcastle Brown Ale England 18.6oz |
The first time I tried Newcastle Brown Ale I was extremely hesitant since I favor lagers. I was pleasantly surprised - I expected a heavy ale with a bitter aftertaste, what I got was a smooth, flavorful ale that was quite refreshing. Newcastle Brown is complex without being overpowering. It has a clean finish with very little hops or bitterness detected.
I would definitely suggest this beer to someone who tends to drink lighter beers/lagers but wants to try something that has a bit more character.
I'm from NYC and have (luckily!) found Newcastle at my local Waldbaum's supermarket as well as at the beer distributor. It's not cheap at around $9/6 but it is definitely worth having on hand if you get sick of the usual everyday Coor's Light, Bud, or even Heineken.
I've had this beer with everything from pretzels to filet mignon to sushi and it has not let me down.
