| 42ENGLISH's Full Review: Nicotrol Inhaler |
When my husband bought some Nicotrol Inhalers as an aid in his effort to quit smoking, I thought they were rather expensive but if the results were a success it would be worth it.
As he quit the cigarette and inhaled on the plastic nicotine instead, he said, "Honey, I think this is really going to work, they satisfy my craving." It didn't work. As soon as the inhalers were gone, he was back on the cigarettes again. The inhaler doesn't help much for the following reasons:
a. In order to quit smoking, you also have to quit the habit of holding and inhaling. This is one of the most difficult things to conquer. After being in the habit of doing this day in and day out, it becomes second nature. The inhaler does not allow you to stop this habit.
b. Because you are still inhaling and still receiving a dose of nicotine each time, it really mimmicks smoking a regular cigarette.
c. Holding the inhaler itself also mimmicks holding a cigarette, therefore soothes that habit as well.
The patch is not a new idea but I think it is the most effective. Being aware that the habits have to stop are prominent. I suggested he buy the mock cigarettes from the pharmacy to ease the craving to inhale and to slowly wean off this procedure also. It is a slow agonizing process but as far as the inhalers go, I think they defeat the object of the game.
In total, for us they were a complete waste of money with absolutely no effect in the way of conquering the dreaded habit.
