Nike, Inc., is one of the nations largest and best known athletic shoe and apparel companies in the world. Nike manufactures and markets its products in the United States and in more than 100 other countries. Although Nike, Inc. is based in Beaverton, Oregon there name is synonymous with tennis shoes.
I have worn Nike's tennis shoes including their athletic shoes for all types of sports and activities for the past 20 years, which includes running, basketball, tennis, racquetball, cycling, golf, soccer, baseball, basketball, aerobics, walking and weight lifting. Admittedly I am not an expert in all of the sports mentioned, however due to Nike’s influence in the sports industry; it makes you feel like these are the shoes to have. After all the company operates a chain of retail stores called NikeTown, you can find their shoes at every almost every shoe store, not to mention their television adds that run during almost every sporting event.
The company also created Nike International, Ltd. to oversee all international expansion, and focused heavily on increasing its European markets, especially with sales of soccer shoes. Nike marketed the Air Jordan line of basketball shoes and clothes with a series of striking advertising spots. As a result, Nike became the top seller of athletic apparel in the United States. Plus, the company's ad campaigns continue to feature top athletes, which seems to catch everyone’s eye, which brings me to my recent purchase.
Much to my wife’s dissatisfaction I purchased the Nike Air Quintessential tennis shoe secretly 6 months ago. I went to the Mall alone avoiding her famous words, "Not another pair of tennis shoes?" I mainly use it for working out in the gym however, I like the cushion and padding so I use them for running.
When it comes to comfort, style and affordability like most athletes if I can call myself that, I face the age old dilemma and challenge of either wearing my shoe out in 3 months, not having the latest style in 1 month, and much to spend on my next pair.
The Nike Air Quintessential has served me well for the last 3 months, the comfort is definitely there with the soft padding and leather that grips my feet. This shoe is an excellent choice for fitness walkers or Gym “rats” seeking a well-cushioned shoe for fast paced walking or comfort while weight lifting. Perhaps it’s the pliant limber feel that I long for during my fitness regime. The low-pressure heel adds additional comfort but may be a problem for those that need the additional support when playing basketball. According to Nike the “Air-sole units in a extended has a full length Phylon mid-sole for enhanced cushioning”.
Although the manufacture suggests you can wash the shoe, I stopped washing my tennis shoe’s after college. I’ve been called a slave to fashion but after washing my tennis shoe in previous years the leather looks horrible and most tennis seem to loose the soft support. I will not make a recommendation on machine washing the Nike Air Quintessential for that reason. However, I keep my Nike’s clean by wearing fresh clean white socks each workout and towel wiping any dirt or scuff marks with a little dish washing liquid.
If you're looking for a soft flexible tennis shoe that you can wear indoors and outdoors, this shoe is for you. They are extremely comfortable shoes, and seem to be very versatile. My feet do not hurt at the end of the day. The shoes are lightweight and very cozy. The Nike Air Quintessential leather athletic shoes are durable for all weather conditions. You truly get your money worth; the shoe is an inexpensive, quality shoe without gaudy coloring and styling. Parents may have trouble pushing this shoe on their fashion conscious teenager, although very affordable they are plain in design.
Finally, after wearing this shoe for 3 months, with daily rigorous use, it’s time for a new pair, but if you are like my wife and don’t care if Nike has come out with a new style, and you don’t mind the loosing a little comfort then you can get an additional 6 months wear out of them. For me, they now make good lawn and garden shoe’s as I look for my next pair. Although this is a great shoe, tennis shoes don't last forever.
