| adrienne10's Full Review: Nikky Diaper Cover |
When my daughter was 13 months old, we decided to switch from disposable diapers to cloth. We chose a diaper service, so all we had to buy was covers. I knew few people who used cloth diapers and many of them washed their own, so they went for all-in-ones and types of covers and diapers that were not what I was looking for. However, one friend suggested the brand Nikky.
My first question was: Where do I get them? She suggested a catalog called The Natural Baby Catalog, also found online. Through them, I purchased the terry Nikkys that cost almost $18/pair! I really liked the soft cotton for my toddler's skin. Fortunately for her (but not for these covers), my daughter has tiny, thin thighs. These Nikky covers leaked! Plus, after a few months, the "water-proof lining" died. What a waste!
Then, another friend mentioned Babyworks! Babyworks is wonderful! They carry the Nikky brand in several different types: 100% cotton, lambswool felt, and poly. The price range is $12-$19, depending on the size and type. I spoke on the phone with Adrienne and she was able to answer all of my questions. There was no help like that from the Natural Baby Catalog. I found out that Nikky's are not designed for skinny babies. No wonder I had such troubles with leaks! However, a sister brand to Nikky's are Niji's. Niji's are almost the exact same thing as Nikky's only a slightly different style that works great for skinny babies. I switched to shopping with Babyworks and changed diaper covers to Niji's and we are in heaven. No leaks! The 100% cotton does not leak and does not wear out. Plus, Babyworks has a 30 day return policy, so that if I did not like them, I could return them, even used (but clean).
Needless to say, my opinion of Nikky's went down the toilet my baby's waste. Then, I had my second baby. He is a chubby baby with big, fat thighs. Niji's barely get around him. But Nikky's are a dream come true! I started diapering him with Nikky covers and haven't had any leaks or problems at all.
One day, I needed the next size up of Nikky's. I decided to try Baby Bunz, the third and last catalog through which you can purchase Nikky's. They boast the best price, at $.05 less than Babyworks. Again, there was no one to really help me or answer my questions. I was less than impressed.
When reviewing Nikky's I see several very negative reviews of them. I could have been one of them, if it weren't for the great customer service at Babyworks. If you've purchased Nikky's from someplace else, give Babyworks a call, you'll not regret it. If you have a skinny baby, Nikky's are not for you. But the 100% cotton is why I switched to cloth diapers (so why would I use a plastic pants?). And I have one skinny and one chubby baby. Niji's and Nikky's are the way we go. Some find the cost prohibitive, but I think it is worth it for my babies.
All in all, give Nikky's a try through Babyworks. The diaper covers are very nice and worth the cost.
