Pros:Great focus, easy to use once learned. Easy to clean lens.
Cons:Hard to clean the grooves, Slightly complicated to learn for a beginner.
The Bottom Line: This is an excellent addition to any Nikon camera kit. Very professional.
This is definitely my go to lens for Portraiture. I got the Nikon D3000 with kit lens and this, the Nikkor 55-200mm was a welcome addition to my kit a year later. It has an aperture minimum range starting from 4.0 at 55mm to 5.6 at 200mm - a noticable drop from the 5.6 aperture at 55mm's in the typical Nikon Kit Lens. At about f-9 this lens absolutely shines. Everything is in perfect clarity at any length and it just looks mint.
This lens works very well to combat any additional noise, and there's very little distortion in object size or shape of the subject matter. I do notice a little louder snapping noises when this lens is on, so it's harder to take animal photos close up. This lens is very easy to clean - except for around the grooves in the grip. But the lens glass is very scratch resistant. It has a snug fit on any Nikon body and is very easy to attach. You can actually attach it upside down if necessary, but I wouldn't suggest it as it will eventually wreck your body. Once in a while it has some issues with autofocus but that's most likely because my body needs to be sent in for repair.
