Pros: 4 Megapixel, Lightweight, versatile, rich colors, sharp lens, accessories, pro-sumer oriented, rechargeable Li-ion battery
Cons: New LCD is smaller, complex menu, auto-focus can be fooled under certain conditions.
The Bottom Line: Big improvement over 995. Perfect for the prosumer or sophisticated casual user. See my pics at: http://musings2001.tripod.com

| energyplus's Full Review: Nikon COOLPIX 4500 Digital Camera |
A former professional photographer, I own both the CoolPix 995 and now the CoolPix 4500. I have spent the past three days comparing the two and I have to say that while I didn't think it was possible, Nikon has managed to make an even better product out of an already great product. There are more features than there is space to list here.
Improvements: The CoolPix 4500 is lighter, more rugged (magnesium alloy body vs. the plastic body on the 995), even better optics, increased variety of user and auto options, improved flash (hidden until needed), now has sound when shooting short movie clips, accepts both Type I and II CF cards as well as IBM Microdrive (1 gig!), and on and on. I've only had the camera three days, but I like the way it handles better and I love the results (I have photos from both on my web site: http://musings2001.tripod.com) This is a top flight camera for the money and I am more than happy I made the purchase.
