The N-65 is a great camera for anyone wanting to upgrade from a point and shoot or perhaps learn more about photography. This camera allows the user as much or as little control as desired. The user interface is very simple, allowing users the following levels of control:
1 Fully Automatic
2 User sets shudder speed, camera takes care of the rest
3 User set aperture, camera takes care of the rest
Using these three functions allows great flexibility to simply capture images in many different settings.
I purchased an N-65 for use on a two month backpacking trek, and enjoyed using it several times a day for those two months. It was very durable, and lighter than most SLRs (an important feature when carrying it for 700 mi) making it great for outdoor use. I also found that the batteries lasted well, one set of batteries lasted well through the two months of constant use and are still going strong.
The only problems that I encountered were with the camera's software.
When selecting to over/underexpose, the selection remains set even after the camera is turned off/on: if you forget to reset it you will over/underexpose all of your following shots.
The flash is sometimes stubborn: in most situations I prefer not to use a flash, but particularly in the full auto mode the camera will not allow you to turn off the flash.
Overall my experiences with this camera have been extremely positive, and I recommend it highly.
