Nintendo DS is a portable game system created by Nintendo. The system is named Nintendo DS because the system offers "Dual Screens", with one top screen and one lower screen. The lower screen on the system is a touch screen, which can allow users to write, draw, and touch their way through fun with the Nintendo system and games. Since the system also has a touch screen Nintendo also offers a service called Pictochat, which allows users within around 100 feet of each other to write, draw, and more to their friends in a similar type of instant messaging service offered through the system.

The system also offers 3 different versions; the most recent version released is called Nintendo DSi Lite. The other two versions are the original Nintendo DS and the predecessor Nintendo DS Lite. There are slight differences between the different versions of the Nintendo DS'. Nintendo DS lite offers a lighter, less bulkier system, as well as a more pleasant look which helps make the system look more advanced and appealing. The Nintendo DS Lite also offers a longer battery life than the original Nintendo DS, as well as offering a built in microphone that is more responsive. The microphone is often used by Nintendo DS games to allow users to issue commands for what they want their character to do, and similar acts. The Nintendo DS Lite also comes in a variety of colors (12 different colors to be exact), as the original Nintendo DS only comes in silver.
The differences between Nintendo DS Lite and Nintendo DSi lite, other than price are actually quite significant. The Nintendo DSi Lite is said to be similar to the Sony's Playstation Portable, or Sony PSP. The Nintendo DSi Lite offers SD Card ports, Wi-Fi capabilities, a built in camera, and more. The Nintendo DS also allows users to record music and sounds through the microphone, and save the pictures taken with the camera onto the SD Card inserted into the system.
Overall, I'm very happy with my Nintendo DS Lite. I feel safer with Nintendo DS than I do with Sony PSP, as I feel that although Sony makes very good products, that the Nintendo DS is more reliable. I have heard of many cases were Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lites have broken, but it was often due to user error or mistreatment. Both the Nintendo DS Lite and the Nintendo DSi lite are very impressive, and depending on what you plan on using your Nintendo for, you can use the above information for choosing which system is correct for you. I would recommend the Nintendo DSi Lite if you plan on using it for Wi-fi Internet capabilities, as well as taking pictures and listening to music, but if you want the Nintendo simply for playing games, I'd recommend the Nintendo DS Lite. I wouldn't recommend the original Nintendo DS, as they are more likely to have problems, not to mention they are bulkier and less attractive looking.
My father uses the Nintendo DS Lite for Brain Age to help keep his mind sharp, and I've also started using the software. It helps your memory a lot, and is really a lot of fun. I would highly recommend Nintendo DS Lite systems for someone who might be interested in any of the above mentioned uses.
