Cons: WHITE model gets grubby....buy a guard
The big request on Santa's list this year was new DSI's for each of my 3 children. My 9 year old requested the white one. He is familiar the with DS system and has a DSlite. Any DS games are compatible with this system as well as gameboy games as there is a compartment that accepts them for use on the DSI (as well as the DSlite). Our family LOVES the wifi built in. The FLIPNOTES are amazing and the kids are fast at work making amazing animations with their own ideas, sounds, and drawings. I love that you can adjust volume, and set as strict of parental controls as you like. It has a camera feature and the kids had it figured out immediately. I can do it. SPEAKS VOLUMES! The menu has icons that make using and navigating the many features of the DSI easy. ANOTHER great thing....they can download games online from the system itself. Saves me a trip to GameStop or Costco for new games. There is a picto-chat feature for instant messaging within 52 yards. The kids can chat with the nextdoor neighbor friend of theirs. That's fun for them. Again here, you can set your security settings. NICE.
Here's my only beef and it's aesthetics only. The white one...gets grubby looking. I HIGHLY recommend buying a guard for the system (available anywere DSI's are sold...around 14-20 bucks or less).
In closing, I am so tickled with the DSI for my kids ages 9 (twin boys) and 6 (daughter). They are easy to use, secure as you make them in regards to online browsing, and amazing little entertainment systems. Taking them along in the car makes trips to school or shopping a treat, and if you set them aside until loading up-the kids seem a little happier about the tasks at hand, and get to the car quicker.
One bit of advise...because of their portable size, and tons of features, your kid can be entertained on the system for HOURS on end. You'll have to monitor their time if you are concerned about that :) Our kids have not missed a day of play on them.
