delorean623's Full Review: Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP White Console
From jumping back into the video game community after being out for two years, this is an excellent jump. The game that began everything was Metroid Fusion. One day, I'm playing it on a friends GBA, the next, on my own GBA SP Platinum. The difference was amazing. I've got rather large hands, and the SP was much more comfortable. Depending on how you hold the SP, the L and R buttons can be in a great position, or a horrid one. Regardless, they're placed better than on GBA. I'm one who enjoys flip electronics (notebook computer, flip phone, etc) so this was great. There are two colors, cobalt and platinum. IMHO, cobalt seems more childish, like the older GameBoys. For a lack of a better term, Platinum seems more professional. I can see hard core GBA SPer's more with Platinum over Cobalt. The only problem with Platinum, is with a lot of use, the coating will wear off at certain places. Not very noticable unless you're really looking for it. I've recharged my SP about 6 times. Where I come from, two AA batteries cost $3. In two months, only 18$. In another two months, the SP will have more than paid for the difference between it and GBA just in cost of batteries alone! The fact that the SP sports the frontlight makes it seem like any game is brand new, because you can see things you couldn't before! This thing is so packed in, there isn't any room for a headphone jack. Because of that, you have to purchase an adapter. You can go one of two ways. The Nintendo way, and get just the adapter. Or you can go the Mad Catz (crappy products) route, and get an adapter that allows you to use headphones and still charge your SP. I'd recommend the Nintendo way, just because Mad Catz makes crappy products.
The bottom line of the GBA SP is that its an excellent system, and is well worth the $30.
