The Bottom Line: Great game. Rent first...nah its cheap, just buy it. It's worth it just for the initial impressions of others. Let your friends mock you, HAHA! Crazy!
*Pikmin*- One of the wierdest game Ive ever seen has got to be this game. I have no clue what Shigeru Miyamato (developer of games such as Mario, Zelda) is getting this stuff but I like it. The story is nothing special, your spaceship has just crashed on this planet, and now you need to retain all of the ship parts (up to 30) that are scattered around the planet. You discover(and control) these Pikmin which help you fight off enemies and carry ship parts back to your ship.
*Gameplay*- The gameplay is fun and innovative. The Pikmin follow you arround and you can throw them around and they will react to whatever you threw them at in different ways. Throw them at an enemie, they will begin to attack it. Throw it at a wall, they will try to knock it down etc.
There are up to 3 types of Pikmin all having different advantages and disadvantages such as the Blue ones can go into water, the red ones can go into fire. You can have up to 100 Pikmin out in the area at once. You can have all of the same color or a mixture. You have 30 days to collect the 30 missing parts from your ship, you do the math. Depending on how many parts you get depends on the ending you receive at the end. But no matter what, to beat the game you need the necessities such as the engine, duh!
This game does involve strategy, sometimes you need to leave certain Pikmin doing some jobs and then bring over some others to do other jobs. There are several different levels you will travel around to get the parts. Once you get more parts more levels will open up for you. The gameplay is refreshing and overral very fun.
*Graphics*- The graphics are cartoony, they arent mouth dropping, or mouth watering but neat and fit the games style perfectly.
*Sound*- The sound also fits the game very well and is for some reason very humorous to me. I just love the screech of the poor Pikmins souls when I throw them into the water and they begin to drowned. However, that was when I was just joking around, a tear came to my eye when this happened first..poor Pikmn, great sound.
*Controls*- The controls are easy to use and again fit the game well. Using A,B,X,Y you can throw them, call Pikmin back who are in your proximity or set them into groups. Then there is Z for Map. (pretty sure, havent played in awhile)
*Replay Value*- This is where the game lacks, the game can be beaten in a little under 8 hours and then there is little more to do. You can replay the game over a few times and try to do better by getting a larger population of Pikmin or beating it faster. Or you can play the challenge mode which is how many Pikmin you can make in just one day. (keeps track of stats) Otherwise this game has little to none replay value.
*Final Word*: A neat game that is worth a purchase or at least a rental to see if it's for you or not. Good game overall but not up there with most Nintendo games.
