I was teasing my wife for months before Christmas telling her I wanted a Wii. I never thought she would actually get one because they were sold out everywhere but she did manage to find a store that was getting an order in and got there to be the first one to get one, and only had to wait about 45 minutes. So, the first year that Wii was released I had one. I was so excited, and all this time later, I'm still excited.
I'm not going to go over every single detail of processor speed or connection type or anything like that. If you're reading a review on the Wii, you probably already know that and are just wondering if the experience you have will be worth it. Well, in short order I think I can tell you pretty easily that for the majority of people, YES!!! You will love it! The exception would be for hard-core, high res gamers who want the most realistic action possible. If that's you, stop now and don't buy it. If you are the average person like me and just want something fairly cheap to have fun at parties and such, then this will perform so much better than you could possibly imagine.
I primarily use my Wii to entertain the kids if we have friends over with kids 4-5 or older, or to entertain us and our friends when we have gatherings, family functions, etc. It never fails to be a hit. Even when you never venture beyond the simple game that comes with the Wii, which has nothing more than simple golf, bowling, tennis, batting, and boxing games. They never fail to entertain and make everyone smile. I've had people from 4 to 85 play Wii and they all loved it.
Ok, now for some of the owner experience other than the fun part.
The first thing you're going to want to do is get at least 1 more controller. This is not a requirement but it comes in awefully handy. The game will handle up to 4 Wii controllers.
Hookup - very easy. It comes with a standard connection type that will plug into pretty much any TV made in the last decade, so you generally don't have to worry about that. Plug in the power and the little remote control sensor bar, and you're all set. The cord for the sensor bar (that tracks where your remote is pointed, etc) is quite long so you can locate the Wii quite a distance away from the TV if you want.
Remotes - VERY easy to use, pretty long battery life. You can see at any time what the battery life is, and you are supposed to get a warning when the battery gets low. I can't say for sure because I'm STILL on the first set of batteries!!
Really, that's about it. If you want something fun for the whole family and for friends, then the Wii is certainly worth the price. If you want hard core gaming, then look elsewhere. Me, I just like to have a little fun so the Wii is certainly for me.
