Santa Clause brought us a wii last year for Christmas and the entire family loves to play - including Grandma when she comes for a visit. We received the standard wii package and the wii play package. This is our first game system and we are not a huge video game family. Having said that, the Wii sports games are really fun and in my family's opinion, you don't really have to have any other games for a quite awhile. However, you need additional controllers for more than one person to play. WARNING - your muscles will hurt if you play this game correctly, you will feel like you actually played the game on the tennis court, boxing ring, bowling alley, etc. The Wii play package really isn't played too much here in our house but it came with the extra controller so it wasn't a huge waste of money. We also do not have a charger - we use standard batteries instead and we do not find that the wii uses an excessive amount of batteries. In the past year we have purchased Dance Dance Revolution for the wii (which I do not recommend), wii fit (which I do recommend) and we received a driving game as a gift (which is fun for the boys/men in our house but doesn't get played too often). The only problem that I have with the wii itself is that there isn't a way to store the controllers neatly - I imagine that there is an after market purchase we can make (like a charger stand). There are plenty of games and accessories to purchase for the wii so if you are giving a wii as a gift, you will have plenty of gift ideas for the future. Last year the wii was very difficult to find but this year I have seen them at Target several times and have purchased one to give as a gift.
