Pros:Great for a family, inexpensive comparitively, focuses on keeping you fit.- not on the couch.
Cons:The remotes are a little easier to lose since they aren't attached to anything.
The Bottom Line: I would definitely recommend this product. Family fun, games, and fitness all put in a little white box.
My husband and I purchased a Wii for our family a year ago and we love it. We haven't had a single problem with it and there really is something for every member of our family, even our 2 year old can do the hula hoops or running on Wii Fit or play music in a puppy suit on Wii Music! We have had no problems with the console and the remotes are still accurate. I was afraid the system would wear down quickly being so inexpensive but I have been pleasantly surprised! Our kids like to take off with the remotes and occasionally we really have to hunt for them; but this is a small inconvenience for the amount of fun we have had with this system. There is such a wide range of choices in games and the console comes with some pretty neat options. My kids love the photo channel- we can put our digital camera's SD card into the Wii and make puzzles and coloring pages out of photos or even watch videos.

If you have WiFi access at home, you can purchase all kinds of fun games from the Wii channel, we bought a realistic aquarium a few weeks ago and use the bubbling sounds to help our kids fall asleep when they're sick! It even has old NES games that you can't find anywhere else. A lot of people don't like that it doesn't give the option of playing DVD's, but really there are so many other things you can do that I don't miss it at all (and honestly, that's what a DVD player is for!)
We have been extremely pleased with the Wii and have never once regretted the purchase.
