A Surprising Result!

Pros: It Works. New Hair Growth in a month. Nice Scent and Lather.
Cons: Expensive (similar to other salon brands). Probably need to use it continuously.
The Bottom Line: If you want to grow your hair long and strong, Nioxin is the way to go.

Intro:
My hairdresser recommended Nioxin Actives (for non-color-treated hair) when I told her I wanted to grow my hair long for my 2007 wedding. She said it would even help with the areas of thinner hair around my temples. I was not entirely convinced, but I looked around, and after getting positive comments from a few salon girls and online friends, I decided to try the "Sample Pack," which includes the Cleanser, Scalp Treatment, and Intensive Treament solution.
Bottle:
The Cleanser (I will review the other products only in passing here) sample bottle is a good size, about half the size of a Suave bottle, so comparable size/price ratio to similar salon-only products. It has a "pull-up" top that keeps water out and lets you measure the product into your palm very well.
Texture/Scent:
Very nice blue gel, medium intensity mint scent. The gel is not too watery or too thick, and about a nickel size amount was perfect for my chin-length hair. The mint scent is nice in the shower, but fades quickly after rinsing. Lathers very nicely, without giving hair a squeaky feel.
Ok, I know you're waiting to hear the most important part: Does It Work??
Yes. I was a skeptic, I didn't really think it would do anything other than keep my hair moderately healthy, as a good salon product should. Boy, was I surprised!
After only a little more than a month of use (about half a bottle of cleanser and scalp treatment and a full bottle of intensive treatment), I saw NEW GROWTH. I am talking noticeable 1 inch hairs visible along my hairline, temples, and part where no hairs were before. It's not just me, either, my boss, fiance, and a stranger i was talking to in line about hair all noticed the growth and were suitably impressed :)
In addition, my hair is splitting less, I find *much* less hair in the bathtub drain, and my hair shafts stand taller, giving me more volume. This is especially important to me, since I have very fine, soft hair that tends to droop.
Now, I have heard of people with actual hair problems (such as loss from chemo or other treatments) who have had even more spectacular results, but I want you to have the firsthand story, not just rumors of miracles from a friend of a friend of your hairdresser's brother's girlfriend:
I am a woman in my mid-twenties with fine but otherwise normal hair. I have never been able to grow my hair long due to it's softness and fragility, but Nioxin has changed my outlook. From increasing the hair in those "thinner" areas many women share around the hairline, to increasing the speed of new growth, to reducing hair loss from breakage and weakened shafts, Nioxin has far exceeded my expectations.
Conclusion:
Not only does it do what it claims too (make your hair grow), it is also an excellent shampoo/conditioner package overall, with nice lather, wieghtless conditioner, and a scent that made my fiance comment "Wow, your hair smells great!"
I recently purchased more of this product and plan to continue using it until my hair is as long as I feel I can handle.
BTW: If you have color treated hair, they also offer a "Protectives" line that should offer similar results.
