Handling and Control:
Pros:show stopping good looks
Cons:everything else, this is one of the worst tires i have ever driven on
The Bottom Line: They suck more then anything else has ever sucked and the model "extreme performance" is an extreme misrepresentation of the tires capabilities or lack there of.
Let me preface this review with some background information about myself (if not to validate my opinion just a little bit more)
I consider myself to be one of those "car guys" i really do love my car and am into somewhat serious performance, and on the off chance i can't afford the best, i can certainly appreciate it.
I also am a weekend racer where your tires will make or break you and i can honestly say that these are the worst tires i have ever had the displeasure of racing/driving on. Now you may say, well i don't race, so i don't require the level of grip you may. That is where you are wrong... you see, tires are quite possibly the most important piece of equipment on your car, as it is the ONLY thing that is keeping you on the road. If your tires can't hold you on the road in a turn, then you go off the road, it's as simple as that. Invest in good tires, don't get tires with 80,000 mile tread warranties, these tires suck, they are hard and will not grip the road in an emergency maneuver (making it very comprable to my racing when the tires must perform at the limit) and a tire with 80,000 mile treadwear warranties quite simply will be very dangerous at the limits.
Now to get on with the review... these tires suck... in case you didn't get the impression that I absolutely detest these tires, let me just clarify that right now, I HATE THESE TIRES. The fact that they look so good, have the word extreme in the title and are relatively cheap (much cheaper then when they first debuted) make me hate it even more.
The contact patch (the rubber part that contacts the road) is very hard, this is bad. the sidewalls (the side of the tire that contacts your wheel) is very soft, this is bad too. A hard contact patch means little grip, and a soft sidewall means loss of steering response time and road feel. Not to mention that a soft sidewall in an emergency maneuver could fall off the wheel depending on how soft it really is.
The one almost good thing i can say about this tire is that the wet weather performance is equal to the dry weather performance... you may think this is good, but in fact, unless you live in a place it rains more then it is dry outside, it's really quite bad actually. It just means that you don't lose any of the sub-par performance you had in the dry when its raining.
When racing on these tires, it was horrendous, tires broke loose very easy, squealing in protest every turn i was able to make. On the street when driving much more easily, saddly, the results were quite similar, every turn resulted in squealing tires and even worse was that i could hear the horrendous road noise that was emitted from driving on the highway now...
So i would like to conclude this review by saying you can buy better tires for your car in any size then these at the same price point. I think that one nitto 450 extreme tire costs about $65 in a 15" size. For similar money you can get an excellent Bridgestone Potenza RE730 (summer tire) which will give your car MUCH more responsive handling, amazing levels of grip and excellent treadlife still (about 30k-40k depending on driving habits) for the same or maybe even cheaper, you can get BF goodrich Comp T/A VR4 which will provide much better grip then the nitto but less then the bridgestone, and its all season as well... either of these tires will provide you with a much more confidence inspiring ride and will be safer in emergency maneuvers.
