| clbello's Full Review: Nivea Silky Shimmer Lotion |
I'm a sucker for "the hook". An enticing 30 second blurb for the 5 o'clock news, for 20/20, for Primetime Live - I'm hooked. Same thing for anything having to do with beauty and cosmetics. I saw a TV commercial for this product and was hooked. I went out the next day and bought it.
Of course, you're reading this from someone who tried to go blonde once because the model on the haircolor box was pretty. Needless to say, I didn't wind up with a smaller nose, smaller, whiter teeth or a new skin tone. I'll never go blonde again, thankyouverymuch. You would think I'd learn.
I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find that this product actually works! The cream itself has a true golden glow and a very pleasant, unoffensive aroma. It glides on smoothly and evenly, leaving the skin soft and moisturized.
But...the best is yet to come!
After moving to the east coast of South Florida 6 years ago, I went through the usual newcomer's infatuation with the sun and the beach. Bad news...nothing but bad news! We all know the sun can be very drying to the skin, but freckles and uneven patches suddenly appeared on my face that hadn't been there before. I learned very quickly that no one worships the sun down here except the tourists (no offense intended - our sun here is brutal). 45 SPF sunscreen became my best friend. It's never farther than my purse.
The first time I tried Nivea's Shimmer Lotion I noticed an evening of my skin tone. Sure, the freckles were still there, but they weren't as there as they were before. My skin did have a definite glow! My pores looked smaller, my skin tone flawless! I swear it wasn't an illusion!
The real test of the lotion came one night a few weeks ago when my husband and I went out on the town with friends.
I should explain that, at the age of 46 I still have scabby knees. Sad, but true. I broke my wrist last summer rollerblading, so you can surmise that there's still a bit of a 17 year old in me. I have new scars on my elbows and knees with a recent acquaintance with our driveway after tripping over our 18 pound Silky Terrier while playing a game of "chase" with our 80 pound Rottweiler. Short skirts and shorts? Out of the question.
I was determined to wear a new outfit I'd purchased before my fall and spread the lotion on with skepticism (I'm not a total fool - there's always room for a little doubt). While the dark areas of the scars were still there, their appearance was significantly reduced. The edges seemed to blend into the surrounding skin tone and weren't as blatant. I felt confident enough to put on this new outfit with the short skirt and had a wonderful time without worrying about my scars.
The lotion dries quickly and doesn't wear off easily. It doesn't seem to rub off on clothing when dry which was a concern. No one wants to be seen in a dark dress with gold or light colored rings around the collar.
The only problem I've found is that once dry it's difficult to reapply makeup without smudging. Rub too hard and there are lines of demarcation that suddenly appear. This is easily remedied by washing the face before reapplying the lotion and any touchups. We do that anyway, right?
