A little shimmer, a little price tag, a little disappointing...

Pros: Light gold shimmer, inexpensive, moisturises skin
Cons: The shimmer wasn't visible at night, only under sunlight, takes 2 coats for shimmer
The Bottom Line: A nice, light, lotion that gives skin a natural golden shimmer without going overboard. The effect is subtle and looks great in sunlight.

| baby_pie's Full Review: Nivea Silky Shimmer Lotion |
Over the last year or so I've become a little glitter queen. I'm loving all the shimmery, glittery, shiny products that have been coming out. Mostly I like to apply these products to my chest, shoulders and legs.
I had seen Nivea Shimmering Body Lotion (same product, slightly different name in Oz) and snatched it up immediately !
The bottle is smaller than conventional Nivea body lotions at 200ml. It's an attractive white/grey rather than the recognisable navy, obviously a (clever) attempt for Nivea to appeal to younger women and teens. It worked. I'm in my early 20's and have never bought a Nivea product in my life, though I confess to smearing some of my parent's Nivea on sunburn when I was fourteen and didn't use sunscreen. My dad's been a faithful Nivea user for as long as I can remember, applying the thick cream from the little round tub every night. He's 61 years old and looks about 50! Nivea must be doing something right.
Nivea says (on front of bottle):
"For smooth skin with radiant shimmer. Reflection with light reflecting pigments."
Very appealing. How could I resist?
The back of the bottle claims:
"Gives skins even texture with radiant shimmer."
You CAN get an even, gold glow with this product if you blend it well. You need to make sure you get every inch of the skin you want or you'll be able to see blotches. As for the radiant shimmer? Yes.
"Allows the skin's natural tone to shine through while smoothing out unevenness".
It sure does. The shimmer in Nivea Shimmering Body Lotion is subtle, so even after the 2-3 coats I apply, it still looks natural. It's not overpowering or fake. And it does even out red blotches on legs after shaving.
"Enriched with replenishing oils to smooth and moisturise skin, leaving your body silky-smooth and soft"
Nivea Shimmering Body Lotion does soften my skin. I didn't notice anything exceptional about the way it moisturised, but it does a good, basic job of making skin soft and smooth.
Direction for applying (from bottle):
"Applying liberally to exposed skin. Use as often as desired. For added shimmer apply lotion, massage into skin, and reapply. Shimmering Body Lotion may leave residue on clothing. Use the garment care instructions to clean."
Ingredients:
Water, Glycerin, Octyldodecanol, Mineral Oil, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Alcohol Denat., Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Microcrysalline Wax, Titanium Dioxide, Stearic Acid, Mica, Dicaprylyl Ether, Myristyl Alcohol, Sodium carbomer, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Iron Oxides, Fragrence.
I like Nivea Shimmering Body Lotion, but I'm not jumping with joy over it. I'd like it better if the shimmer was more noticeable, as I apply 2-3 coats and STILL want the shimmer to be darker. Another thing is that this lotion's shimmer is only visible in sunlight for me. It didn't work in night time lighting or under fluorescent daytime lighting.
Nivea Shimmering Body Lotion has a thin consistency and a pleasant scent. It will stain your clothes so be careful! You also need to give your hands a good scrubbing afterwards. In fact, my palms had a nicer, darker gold shine then my body after I was done applying lol
As far as body shimmers go, I think I prefer dusting on some shimmer powder for a more glittery look. Would I buy this product again? Probably not. But only because the shimmer was too subtle on my skin. It's a good product that I'm sure I'll use up before summer is over!
