Pros: Moisturizes, smoothes skin, leaves a trace of warm, skin-enhancing color that makes skin look pretty.
Cons: Need to distribute evenly so the shimmer isn't clumped, expensive-ish for a drugstore lotion.
The Bottom Line: A gorgeous, shimmering lotion that leaves skin smooth, glowing, and smelling great. It looks pretty and romantic without being garish or overdone!

| redhotspicy's Full Review: Nivea Silky Shimmer Lotion |
I saw a magazine ad for Nivea's new Silky Shimmer Lotion in the spring and was intrigued by the advertising claims. "Natural Reflecting Pigments", huh? Sounds good. At my next trip to Walgreen's Pharmacy, I headed over to the Beauty section (alright, I was already in the Beauty section....ok fine, I live in the Beauty section!)
As a beauty product addict, I had to have this lotion. The price this last spring was $9 for 6.8 fl. ounces, which I thought was a tad pricey, this being a drugstore lotion. Fortunately, I am now on my fourth bottle and the price is usually closer to $7 now.
The hype behind Nivea Silky Shimmer is that there are these tiny natural shimmer particles that even out the skin tone and give this subtle, pretty glow. Also, it moisturizes. Sounds pretty nice, right?
It is. Silky Shimmer comes in a creamy white bottle that actually has this shimmery-glow look to it. 6.8 ounces is in the bottle, which has a cap that you flip open and squeeze to use. The bottle is attractive with the shimmery look and navy writing, so I don't mind having the container on the vanity.
The real test- putting this stuff on. Nivea instructs you to smooth it over your skin and letting it dry before having any contact with clothing, I assume so that the shimmer doesn't rub away.
The scent of Nivea Silky Shimmer is lovely, in my opinion. It's a really pleasant, perfume-y scent but not heavy. I love that it isn't flowery OR fruity, just intoxicatingly pleasant. The lotion looks unusual when you squeeze it out- the texture is nice and creamy and the color is golden and dewy. I was relieved to find this lotion didn't look glittery or scary.
I applied Silky Shimmer before leaving for a date, I was wearing a lowcut dress. I smoothed the lotion all over my body and slipped into my dress. Ooooh la LA! My super-pale skin looked golden and silky, and had this subtle yet ethereal glow to it. I couldn't even make out any of the "shimmer particles" in it, it was that subtle. I would compare this look to candle-light perhaps. Certainly not shiny at all, or glittery, simply gorgeously dewy and silky.
I loved the romantic glow my skin had all evening. The shimmer didn't flake off my skin, and really did moisturize well. I have used this nearly daily for almost a year and love it-- daily, it evens out my skin tone, smells delightful, and smoothes, and it's also wonderful for a special evening because it leaves skin subtly gorgeous and glowing.
I recommend this for anyone desiring a lotion that will even out their skin and moisturize with a silky, glowing effect. I think it works on all skin tones, as there isn't much color to the lotion.
