You may not be allergic (Reply to this comment)

You can check by rubbing just the tiniest bit of Nizoral either behind your ear or on your forearm just below the crease of the elbow. You only need a fraction of a drop. Just rub it in well and check often over the next 24 hours. If you think you may touch the area too often because you are nervous about another reaction you can have a friend place a dab in the center of your back where you can't reach. Or have them stand behind you and rub a dab of the shampoo behind one ear and a dab of cetaphil behind the other without telling you which is which.
You may want to have benadryl cream on hand just in case.
I only recommend this because as others have said, Nizoral really does work. Even though it is pricey, I've found I can use less by shampooing with Suave or another shampoo first then reshampoo with the Nizoral using much less because the other shampoo has already cleaned my hair. Letting it sit in your hair for a few minutes also makes it work better. I also use my fingertips to dab it onto my scalp in the worst spots (my hairline & back of my head, in my case) and then work it into a lather from there, concentrating on my scalp, not the rest of my hair. I have long, thick hair and would need a ton otherwise.
If you turn out to be allergic, coal tar is a good alternative, as others suggested. But they have a strong odor and are very harsh on your hair. Again, you can use less if you follow the steps above.
Good luck. If you try the allergy test, I'd be nice if you post back and let us know your results.

I have had good luck with Nizoral and have eczema too. Maybe another medicated shampoo, SEBULEX could work for you. Good luck.

What a horrible experience! I've never heard about the relationship between asthma and dandruff.
I have not had the unfortunate experience of personally dealing with dandruff, although I know a lot of people who do.
Have you tried coal tar shampoos? I have a few friends that use them and have had good results.
I think dandruff shampoos are like any other shampoo, your body gets used to them and they stop working after a while. Try switching to another similar brand and going back to your original brand.
Good luck!
