Gets rid of flakes!

Pros: Smells good; instantly decreases/controls flakes; Easy to use
Cons: More expensive (but won't break the bank); didn't get rid of itching
The Bottom Line: I would definitely recommend this product if your needs are beyond what Tar shampoos can handle.

Every year, as winter sets in and the air dries out, my scalp starts to flake. Selsun Blue and H & S didn't help, so I tried Neutrogena. First of all, the smell of Tar shampoo is about enough to make me gag. Second of all, it never did get rid of my flakes completely. Made them 'less noticible', if you will... So flakes were something I just dealt with during the summer.
Then I got married, moved to a new state, started a new teaching job at a school with several special needs kids -- can we say "MAJOR stress!!!!" Now my scalp was dry and starting to 'break out' -- almost as though there were pimples on the scalp. My scalp would scab over (on the back of my head). What was going on?! I tried to 'wait it out' but recently my scalp has started itching. Really, really bad. To the point that I'm scratching my scalp when I should be falling asleep... So I finally came to Epinions and researched "Dandruff Shampoo". Based on the positive reviews, I went to Wal-Mart and bought Nizoral. It was slightly cheaper than listed here -- I think it was $9.50 for 4 oz and maybe $13.50 for 8 oz. I debated which size to buy and decided on the smaller bottle since most users stated that a little goes a 'long way'. I tried it last night and didn't notice scalp tingling. I don't mind the blue color and I personally think it's smells better than H & S and MUCH, much better than the tar shampoos! I may have been too skimpy with the shampoo (or didn't leave it on long enough.... or both) because I did notice that I had fewer flakes today, but my scalp was still itching and I still had some flakes. It was not nearly the 'snowstorm' on my black shirt that I usually had, but I did have enough flakes that I could notice them and had to wipe them off. My scalp still itched today, thought less so in the areas where I put more of the shampoo last night.
Although it says to use "Every 3 to 4 days", I decided to REALLY give it a good try again tonight. I used a generous about (about the size of 3 "Quarters" rather than a "dime" size or so that I used last night). I also brought my watch into the shower so I could make sure it was on my scalp at least 5 minutes. Still a LITTLE itching tonight but bad. We'll see how the flakes do tomorrow, but I could live with the results I had from yesterday. I'm just looking to get rid of the itch. I'm going to give it 2 to 3 weeks and if nothing changes, I'll ask my doctor about it. I think it's definitely worth a try!
