Pros: It works fast, and every time.
Cons: Its more expensive.
The Bottom Line: If you have dandruff and itchy scalp see your doctor. Its probably fungal. If so, I think Nizoral is the best over the counter.

| nmeyepinion's Full Review: Nizoral Anti Dandruff Shampoo |
I have thick, curly long hair, and I've always had mild dandruff off and on. But a few years ago I noticed it had become much worse, and none of the shampoos I tried, like Head and Shoulders or Selsun Blue, not only didn't work, but seemed to exacerbate the problem. I just could not get rid of the itching! At that time I was an assistant to a veterinarian who specialized in dermatology, and I noticed that for almost all the itchy and irritated skin cases he saw, he diagnosed a mild fungal infection and treated them with an anti-fungal medication. It always took care of it. I was curious because I had never heard that an itchy scalp could mean something fungal, and of course, the thought of having a yeast infection in my hair was not pleasant. When I told my boss about my problem, he said that it sounded fungal, and to go see my doctor. My doctor said (to my surprise) that most of the time severe itching and dandruff is due to a fungus called Pityrosporum. Most people have it, and its totally normal, but sometimes it just gets out of control due to weather, stress, etc. He told me to buy Nizoral. One shampoo later, my itchy scalp was completely gone! Even though I shampoo every other day, my head and hair finally felt clean and refreshed. Now I use Nizoral once or twice a month. I haven't had any problems since.
