Ok so I admit that I had dandruff. Apparently everyone does because it is caused by an omnipresent fungus on your scalp (brought to you by same deity that created eyelash mites). I didn’t have much luck with other products. The only thing that ever seemed to work was coloring my hair. I assume that harsh chemical invasion choked the buggers out. I must say that since I tried Nizoral I haven’t had any dandruff (without the harshness of coloring every week).
The Product
It is thick creamy and light blue in color. I buy the largest bottle for economy sake. It has screw cap with a flip top. I find that the flip top is very tight and hurts my fingers sometimes. It also comes in travel envelopes that are comparable to sample sizes. This is great idea, but those envelopes are hard to open when you’re standing the shower all wet. The active ingredient is Ketoconazole (kee-toe-ko-NA-zole). This is a heavy-duty antifungal agent that can also be prescribed in pill form. Nizoral shampoo was available by prescription for many years before it was approved for over the counter use.
Use
Apply this to damp hair. Scrub this into your scalp all over. Hint. Do not pile long hair up your head and soap the entire length of your hair. This shampoo is for your scalp. Long hair gets dry enough. I repeat shampooing my hair. The manufacturer recommends twice per week. Honestly, I do this once every couple weeks to once per month.
I find that is extremely gentle and well tolerated. In the beginning I used this shampoo every time I washed my hair, and my hair was not overly dry. It is more expensive than many dandruff shampoos, but it is well worth the money.
