| hc_ca's Full Review: Nokia 252 Cell Phone |
I'm not exactly sure if there were any major carriers who supported the Nokia 252 phone, but I used my phone through TracFone prepaid.
I used the phone for about 2 1/2 years until I got rid of it and bought a new phone through VirginMobile. During the time I had the 252, I had no problems with the phone, and every call was worth the money I paid. How I felt about the phone below..
Features:
The Nokia 252 is old by todays standards, therefore there aren't a whole lot of features to play with. If you purchase the phone through Tracfone (yes they still offer it even now!), some of the features are removed and replaced with a tracfone interface.
Besides that, you have: six ringers, green-backlight, 1-touch dialing, 1-75 speedial, Security adjustments, Emergency 9 dialing, Auto-answer, Auto-redial, Lock phone, Keypad lock, Calling card capability, Voice mail, and customizable logon messages.
The downside I found with the Nokia 252 was that it was Analog only. This means that calls usually arent as clear, and you can't use the text messages, web and download functions like on most modern phones now.
Screen:
The screen itself is pretty large, but the pixels and characters are huge. The phone does have a green backlight for nighttime viewing.
Size/Weight:
The 252 excels when it comes to compactness. I personally feel it is "just the right size". The thickness is no more than about 1/2 an inch, and the length is about 6 inches. It fits into the palm of the hand very nicely, and the earpiece and mic are in perfect locations. On top of this, the phone weighs no more than about 5 or 6 ounces w/battery. Thus, this phone has perfect ergonomics IMHO.
Quality:
I'm not sure if its because of the age of this phone or what, but it is built extremely well! The casing has an excellent feel to it, and wears VERY little over time. The structure feels stiff and durable.
The keys, I think, are pretty ghetto if you look at some of the modern phones today... They stick out about 1/8 of inch and do not match the color tone of the phone very well. Not a big deal obviously, but it is funny to compare this phone to some of my friends new phones with the "flat buttons".
Sound quality is excellent if consider that this is an analog phone. The speaker is high quality and doesnt sound like it lacks treble, which is usually the case on some phones.
Reception:
Again, considering the age of the 252, reception is good. I cant get quite as many "signal bars" as my new Kyocera phone, but overall reception is good. Most cell service areas support analog signals still, so you should be safe there. In addition, extending the antenna on the 252 (unlike some phones) actually DOES help in increasing the signal strength!
Battery Life:
When in good condition, the battery will last about a 1 1/2 days standby, and about 1.5 hours talking. This is actually terrible if you compare it to new phones, but I usually charge my phone daily anyway.
In conclusion:
This is a phone for people who just want to make calls, and nothing else. It is good for beginner users, but gets old and tiresome as you get more advanced and want added features.
To answer the prevailing question here though... Yes, I would recommend this phone!
