| gujustud's Full Review: Nokia 282 Cell Phone |
Nokia being the best cell phone manufacture out there (in my books at least), can't be 100% perfect.
They were close, when they came out with the Nokia 282, but failed a few times.
First, and foremost, I bring this experience with this cell phone as being a Customer Service Rep/Tech Rep with Rogers AT&T Wireless in Canada, and dealing with the largest cellular customer base in Canada.
Two people I know personally, have this phone. One being my friend, and the other my brother.
A few things about this phone before I continue. First the phone is a ANALOG phone. It will run on all Analog/AMPS and NAMPS networks. Therefore, if your provider only has Digital service, you won't be able to use this phone.
Nokia failed here, by making this phone analog. Had they made this phone a Dualmode phone (analog/digital) it would of taken off a lot better. This, ended up lowering the quality of voice clarity on this phone. True, if you are in a good quality Analog area, the phone works fine. I've used it and wasn't disappointed with the quality, but I did try using the phone is some area's where my digital n6161i worked about 75% better.
Another fault, was Nokia promoting that this phone has CallerID. Yes it may, but many amp networks, such as the Rogers AT&T Wireless network, does not show CallerID on analog phones. Many people will by this phone thinking they'll be getting CallerID, and it doesn't work.
Moving to a nice thing, is that Nokia included a vibrating feature on this phone, which I must admit, is a SUPERB feature to have on a cell phone. The only problem, is that the vibrating is LOUD! Isin't vibrating suppose to be so nobody can tell your phone is ringing?! (ie: in the theatres?)
The only main problem my brother has had with this phone, is the keypad. I've heard this complain from several customers, and I've also read it in many other reviews, so it does seem to be a major fault in the manufacturing of these phones. The phone pad tends to slide a little, which doesn't allow the buttons to fully press down on the internal pad, which doesn't allow you to press buttons properly, and yet, when you do end up pressing hard against it, it inputs several numbers (ie: 44444). This problem is easily remedy by sending this phone in for warrenty, and Nokia will replace the pad, and properly place it back in place.
Those Fine Details:
-Up to 100 minutes talk time (w/ standard battery )
-Up to 24 hours standby time (w/ standard battery )
-Weighs only 4.5 ounces
-Phone book will store up to 75 names and numbers
-Vibrating alert
-VIP tone lets you know when someone special is calling
-Profiles key lets you quickly change your alert settings
-Caller ID (Don't get fooled!)
-Large backlit screen
Personalized
-12 Distinctive ring tones
-4 Fashionable colors
Final Note:
In all the Nokia 282, is a nice phone. Its nice and stylish, more so like the Startac phones, although this phone is much more sturdier. Its nice and compact, and has some good features. But the phone fails by being a analog phone, failing keypad's, and battery power which is honestly not the best. But for those who are just low usage customers, I wouldn't hesitate to say this is a BAD phone.
(Amount paid for phone states $318 which is RETAIL cost of the phone at time my brother bought phone).
