Pros: Very compact. Low Price. Very Clear.
Cons: Analog. Hard to find accessories.
The Bottom Line: Sadly, as much as I love this phone I can't reccomend it. Analog is a dying breed. We need a 282 Digital!

| rheaton's Full Review: Nokia 282 Cell Phone |
First, I write this as a previous owner. I had a 282 for a little over a year and loved it before moving on to a Mitsubishi T250. The ONLY reason I left was the one overwhelming drawback of this phone. It's analog.
This has to be nokia's best kept secret. While all the world was going crazy over motorola's Star-tac ( and paying way too much for it by the way), Nokia very quietly released this little gem. It might be larger and a bit heavier than the Motorola, but that's a good thing. It allows for a larger key pad, and a much more solid feel.
The problem is that it's a secret that was too well kept. When I first started looking for one, I couldn't find one. No one had one in stock, and those that had even heard of it, didn't know where I could get one. Now of course you can get one in those Trac-Phone kits pretty much anywhere. The sad thing is, you still can't get very many accessories for it. It took me months to find a second battery and several weeks to find a reasonable belt clip. This phones were so poorly marketed that they never caught on well enough to engender the support that other phones did.
For those of us that could find one, they were like gold. They cost a small fraction of what a Star-Tac cost, and in my opinion had a much better/clearer speaker. I can turn this thing up and the person next to me could hear the whole conversation clearly. It was great.
I loved this phone. I could shove it in a pocket and forget about it. Once I found a decent blet clip I could wear it around and never bump it on anything, or get poked in the side by it becuase it was so small. Normally I forgot it was even there becuase it was so light. My wallet weights more.
The phone book might be considered small at 75 entries but who really needs hundreds? Battery life was surprisingly good. Calls were always clear and with the exception of the widely commented on Keypad problem, this thing never gave me one problem. It still doesn't in fact. Even though I don't use it often anymore I do still maintain service for it. I use those trac-phone cards. Now it sits in my Girlfriend's glovebox waiting for an emergency. I think that comment alone says it all. I trust it to work.
But I also know that I need to ditch it. And that's sad. it's a great little phone. But the truth is that analog phones aren't long for this world. Nokia had advertised a digital model, but I've never seen one. If one shows up I'll buy it in a second.
If your service provider still offers analog service, grab one of these little gems. You'll love it. Oh, and if you see one that's digital, let me know. I want it!
