| PJFiero's Full Review: Nokia 5160 Cell Phone |
We just bought two Nokia 5160 cell phones and I think they are a tremendous value.
The 5160 is a tri-mode phone (2 digital frequency ranges and 1 analog frequency range) which makes is compatible with most major cell phone carriers currently in operation. The phone is lightweight yet has a large very readable screen, very touch responsive buttons that are easy to read and are backlit for low light operations, and a large address book for storing numbers. The address book stores 100 numbers. There are numerous choices for the ringing tones though this phone does not have the ability to set a different ringer for different callers. If your cell phone carrier offers it, this phone works with caller ID. There are programmable keys for programming frequently called numbers. The Nokia "navi-key" and the up/down keys provide access to just about all the phone's functions through a friendly and convenient menu system.
One drawback I have noticed with my phone, and it may very well be an isolated thing since my wife denies this problem, is that the volume is not enough for me. Hmmmm, maybe the problem is me. One other problem is that the stock battery seems to lack the energy to pick up a decent signal in some buildings where other phones on the same service work fine. The other day I had an incident where my phone was ringing, unbeknownst to me, and I inadvertently hit the answer key so my wife was on the line for about 1-1/2 minutes hollering at me to talk to her before I figured out someone was talking to me from my waist.
We bought these phones for $59.00 each and received a $50.00 rebate for each one so we essentially payed $9.00 per phone. All things considered I would say we got a steal on them for the original price, much less after the rebate. I would rate this phone a steal for theprice considering its functionality.
