When I bought my Sprint cell phone, I bought 2, in a family plan that would cost $60 a month, plus an additional $12 that would cover insurance. (They would replace my phone if anything happened.) It appeared to be a really good deal. Of course I did go over the fee if I were to cancel the 2 year agreement, and I was told it would be $200. (In fact, the sales associate assured me that it would be $200 total, and not per phone since they were both on the same agreement.)
When my husband's phone fell in the water while fishing, it shorted out and was acting very strange. His phone was calling every number in the address book... over and over again. (We removed the battery, and set his phone on the dashboard in an attempt to dry it hoping that would fix it. From inches away.... his phone continued to call mine even without the battery!)
So, we finally had a use for that insurance I wasted my money on every month. When he took his phone in to have it replaced, they tried to charge him $300 for his new phone, regardless of the insurance. They said 'water damage isn't covered.' (My husband smashed the phone on the counter and said "There, now it's broken.") Although we had originally spent $20 on his phone, they stuck on chargin $300 for a new one. We decided it wasn't worth it, we'd just pay the $200 to bail out of the agreement and take our service elsewhere. Here is where the problem worsened.
I called the 800 number and told them to close my account. I was unaware I was supposed to remain on the line and be transferred to a customer service rep who would spend 15 minutes trying to change my mind. I assumed that was that and since I hung up... my account was not closed. I ocntinued getting bills... and each one was higher and higher.
Although my husbands phone was obviously out of order... there were OVERAGE charges for calls he wasn't really making! I have tried to go pay the $200 to get the account closed out... and now they want over $1000 for those bills I refuse to pay, and they are telling me that it is $200 PER phone...
I would not recommend Sprint to anybody.
