| kiko's Full Review: Nokia 6185 Cell Phone |
The Nokia 6185 is one of the better phones out on the market today. It is a more loaded cellular phone than the 5 series phone. But the interface of Nokia's make them easy to use, in general. There are many accessories that can be used with the Sprint PCS phone which only add to make the 6185 complete.
I have tried the earpiece/headset of hands free accessory which can be purchased for 30 dollars. This is a great investment especially if you make long phone conversations with your cellular phone. The accessory also gives great sound clarity since background noise is reduced from the construction of the earpiece. Also, though pricey, the car kit should be considered for those who make long distance car trips. At a price over 150 dollars, the car kit may not be worth the price. I do know that it gives exceptional sound clarity since the car's antenna is used to magnify the signal strength of the phone.
As far as the phone is considered, it is great as a stand-alone product.
The 6185 has the basic features plus more. Many of them extraneous and unnecessary. What it lacks though is the web-enabled capability that the new Samsung and the Nokia 7 series offers as well as a few Qualcomm phones.
Here are a few features of the 6185:
(which are standard in most cases, many of which are available in the Nokia 5 series)
-Auto redial
-Calculator
-Calendar/event reminder
-Caller ID
-Clock with alarm
-Dialed, received, missed calls
-E-mail
-Fax
-Keypad lock
-Numeric paging capability
-On-screen battery indicator
-One-touch credit card dialing
-Phone book
-Profile settings
-Ring tunes
-Short message service
-Voicemail capability
The phone comes in four color choices:
Black, Earth, Ocean and Sky.
The colors are more limited than the highly advertised 5 series, which features Nikki Taylor promoting the product. I have even seen US flag plates for the 5 series.
The phone also offers features like one-touch access to voicemail and text messages, speed-dialing, on-screen message indicators, and on-screen help functions. In case you get bored there are 32 different ring tones, which can be adjusted by volume, to loud or quiet. The vibrating battery is especially a must. The phone is small and lightweight. It weighs just over 5 ounces with the standard Li-lon battery
It is dual band-- with Sprint PCS coverage, it utilizes CDMA technology and analog bandwidth. There seems to be very unnoticeable difference when transferring from analog and digital services.
I do know that the phone is sold with the following plans:
ALLTEL, Frontier Cellular, PrimeCo, Sprint PCS, US Cellular, USWEST Advanced PCS and others.
I like the 6 series phone. If you are looking for a higher end phone with web capabilities look to the 7 series. The 6 series may soon be outdated! But I wouldn't count on that anytime soon. There are some warnings I must give though. Many colleagues of mine own the 6 series especially the 6185 with Sprint PCS service, two of them have trouble with the battery. It slides off and does not stay on the phone. This presents an unnecessary nuisance to worry about--especially during important conversations. This was of course, after the phones were dropped. But still, this is normal wear and tear. The 6185 should last normal conditions.
