Pros: Large walking belt, big motor, lots of programs.
Cons: Expensive, unit is hard to move because of weight.
When you first look at the Nordic Track 6100xi you realize this isnt just some normal treadmill. This is Nordic Tracks top of the line unit and has many features lesser models do not. Ill try to give you a detailed description of all the features of this treadmill and demonstrate its value. And if this treadmill doesnt seem like your cup of tea, feel free to browse my other reviews on similar treadmills.
The motor is a major point of interest to many people so Ill start there. The 6100xi has a 3HP continuous duty motor. This is an extremely strong motor for a treadmill. This amount of horsepower will allow someone up to 300lbs. to use this unit. Continuous duty just means that the treadmill runs at 3HP at a constant state. The other type of classification is usually peak power and this allows the treadmill to vary its horsepower based on the load its carrying. Continuous power is the better of the two and the stronger of the two. For example, a 3HP continuous duty motor is much stronger than a 3HP peak motor. Being that this is a 3HP continuous duty motor it is an ideal treadmill for people over 200 lbs. Many people have trouble finding a unit that can hold its power with a heavier person on it. Well, look no further this is your treadmill. Now, if you are a lighter person I feel this much horsepower is overkill. A 2 HP continuous duty motor would be plenty for that type of person. The walking belt is a comfortable 20 X 60. This is the perfect size for anyone who wants to walk or run. It also has a cushioned deck. There is a foam pad underneath the walking belt. This is very helpful on your joins in the ankles and knees. You can definitely feel the padding underneath you.
The console is large and easy to read. This is very important to me because there are a few treadmills on the market today that you need a separate instructional manual to figure out the controls. The panel displays your basics like speed, time, distance, calories burned, fat calories burned, and incline. The 6100xi also monitors your pulse so you can exercise in your target heart zone. You grip the pulse sensors located on the handles and you pulse will appear on the console. It is very simple and actually quite accurate. It is not as accurate as the chest strap monitors but they run an extra $50-$100. The treadmill operates from 0-10 mph. This is really a standard average for treadmills nothing really special here. I dont know too many people that are running faster than 10 mph for a extended amount of time. The incline will be from 0-12%. This is also fairly average in the treadmill world. 12% grade is pretty steep for me and Im not looking for anything more than that. There are up and down arrows on the console that control the incline. Just touch up or down and the unit adjusts accordingly. If you are worried about the monotony of the same old workout routine, the 6100xi has 30 pre set programs. These are all programs you can select and allow the unit to change the speed and incline for you at different intervals. There are cardio programs, trail programs, heart rate programs, etc. One last program is the iFit compatibility. This allows you to use cds, vhs tapes, and the internet to utilize more programs set to music and video. I have used it and it opens the door to unlimited programs.
There are a few odds and ends that dont really fit the other two categories so Ill just throw them in here. The 6100xi is a space saver and it folds up for easy storage. You just lift from the bottom of the walking deck and lock it into place with a pin on the side. Once you have the unit folded up you can tilt it and move it around on the two wheels at the bottom of the motor. This is a big treadmill so its not the easiest to move around but the capability is there. The warranty is the standard Nordic Track 3-2-1 guarantee. You get 3 years on the motor, 2 years on parts and electronics, and 1 year on labor. This is a good warranty compared to others in the market. Overall its a very good unit and if you have the cash its worth it.
