Pros: Solid design (apart from wheels)
Cons: Cheesy plastic hubs in the pedal wheels.
We bought the CXT 990 about 6 weeks ago, and have been quite satisfied with it up until day before yesterday. The machine developed a loud squeak from the left pedal, and examination revealed that the plastic hub of the wheel that rides on the ramp was disintegrating, allowing the wheel to rub on the yoke.
Which brings us to the MAJOR downside of owning this machine - the alleged Customer Service. Please note that if you but it from Sears, you have to use a different customer service number (1-888-825-2588). I have called them three times now, and each time after several minutes on hold, I have been transferred to an "answering line", where they take your name and number so someone can call you back.
And if you believe that, I have some prime beach-front property just outside Omaha, Nebraska for sale cheap. They have yet to call me. There is nobody answering the phone who can actually do anything for you, aside from take your name and number, write it neatly on a piece of paper and toss it in the trash.
When you add up the cost of the machine and extended warranty (which will not save me, because it does not take effect until the manufacturer's warranty expires), you spend somewhere near $1000. For that kind of money, you expect some service.
