Pros: Worked ok for about two months.
Cons: Difficult to assemble, unsteady, so many problems it stopped working after 4 MONTHS.
The Bottom Line: I hated it - hard to put together, unsteady, too many parts problems that eventually rendered it unusable. I returned mine after just 4 months of use.

| mandybtrin's Full Review: NordicTrack CXT 990 |
I needed a cardio machine that I could use at home, since I don't have time in my day to visit a gym. I looked online to try to find the best elliptical (I get bad shin splints, and have since given up running) since I have enjoyed using them at the gym in the past. The NordicTrack 990 seemed affordable, and my father has had one of the original NordicTrack cross country ski machines forever, and he still uses it every day, so I thought they made good quality products that last. I have never been more wrong.
I purchased my elliptical through Sears, which was a good choice since I can now return it easily. It worked ok at first, but took a whole day to assemble with all of the parts. Also, you can tell that they don't make sure everything fits together when they put the parts in the box - some of the pieces didn't fit together perfectly, and from day one (although I could use it) it squeaked because the base and the upper part could not connect properly no matter how tightly we tried to screw it in. More problems were to come after this initial trivial one. The elliptical began to shut off while I was working out, which, a customer service representative told me was due to a problem with the "reed switch" - the sensor in the flywheel that senses movement. I was unable to locate it on the machine, but somehow, the problem stopped coming up as frequently. However, my machine finally stopped working completely, and the console would not turn on. Right before this happened, I noticed that somehow, one of the wheels was slowly being shaved off by the other parts, so rubber shavings collected in the ramp. I recieved a new console for free by calling customer service (to try to get my machine to work again - he though the console was just bad). It turned on for about five seconds, then flashed as if I had stopped working out (like the problem with the reed switch all over again) then shut off to never turn on again. Needless to say, I'm returning it.
