Pros:Good Value and Quality, excellent delivery & setup service by Sears
Cons:Cannot store multi-user setting, hard to move even with wheels, boring owner manual
The Bottom Line: For $720, it is the best treadmill that I can find.
I ordered the Nordic Track EXP 1000i treadmill from Sears. It was listed for $999, and on sales for $799.99. After I talked to the salesperson, he gave me a 10% discount. which bring the price down to $720.
So, make sure you ask for the discount when you are planning to buy a treadmill from Sears. It didn't take me much effort to get the discount. I just said, "I heard you guys can give me some kind of discount, right?". And this salesperson said, "I could give you a 10% discount on it".
The delivery charge was $39.
I am very satisfied with the delivery service by Sears. They showed up on time (which is very rear in most of the cases). They have 3 persons moved the treadmill to my basement. And 2 persons stayed in the basement to setup the treadmill. It took them about 15 to 20 minutes to setup the treadmill. Since I didn't set it up myself, I can't said if it is easy to setup. However, it doesn't seem too complicated for the delivery people to set it up (but of course I assume they do that at least once everyday). After they setup the treadmill, they actually tested it and made sure it was working before they took off.
The treadmill is about 3' x 6'. It is fairly big, and heavy. I am not sure how heavy it is, but I would say close to 200 lbs. I highly recommend you to pay $39 to let Sears deliver and setup the treadmill for you.
The treadmill is pretty easy to use. The console is easy to read and easy to understand. You don't really need to read the owner manual to learn how to use it. You can start using it as soon as you enter your age and weight. Of course, I still recommend everyone to read the owner manual before using it. However, I think this manual is not the most interesting manual to read. If you are not the type of people who enjoy reading owner manual, I am sure you won't find this manual to be much interesting. I think Nordick Track can do a better job on the manual than what they have.
The tradmill itself is pretty big and quite heavy. Although there are 2 wheels for you to move the treadmill, don't count on it. It is very difficult to move the treadmill, even with the two wheels.
The treadmill itself is very well built. It is not the quietest, but it is a lot better than most of the Proform models.
It comes with a 1.5 hp continuous motor. Please be careful about the definition of continuous motor. A lot of people don't understand what it means. It actually means the motor can constantly output at 1.5 hp. If you see other treadmill without stating continuous motor, it means it is only the peak output, the actual output is usually less the the peak. So, a 2 hp peak motor is not any better than a 1.5 hp continuous motor.
As soon as you enter the age and weight, you can select one for the following programs:
1. manual - you control the speed and incline
2. 3 preset programs - the treadmill controls the speed and incline
3. 2 custom programs - allows you to create and store you own programs.
The console provides you all the basic information, such as Speed, Time, Distance, Incline, Peace, Laps, Calories, and etc. All the information is displayed in 4 LED screens. Each screen displays at least 2 types of information, and it switches the information every 7 seconds. So, it could be confusing to read at the beginning, but I got used to it very quickly. It also has a pulse sensor to measure your heart rate. However, I don't find the pulse sensor to be very accurate.
The treadmill also comes with a blue key attached to the center of the console. This key is attached to your wrist through a string. In case you fall, the key will be pulled out from the console, and the treadmill will be turned off.
This treadmill also has ifit.com. It is actually quite nice. You can buy CD or Video, and connect to the treadmill. The CDs / Videos are selling for about $15 each. Or you can also connect the treadmill to your PC or even to the internet. You can also sign up (free) at ifit.com, and their site helps you to keep track of your training progress, which is very neat.
I've been using this treadmill for a while. I really like it, and I really enjoy using it. I think this is the first piece of fitness machine that I actually use regularly, but not use as a cloth hanger.
The only suggestion is, I hope this treadmill will be able to save more than one users setting. Because everytime when I use it after my wife, I have to change the age and weight. I think Nordic Track should figure out that there are usually more than one persons using the same treadmill. Prehaps they can have a customized key for each user? Or just add a "User 1" and "User 2" buttons to store the user information. Well, this is pretty minor, and I think most of you don't really care.
After all, I think it is a good price ($720) for a Nordic Track, and I think it was very well built. I understand that most of the treadmills are made by the same company (ICON). However, as soon as you try running on the Proform treadmill and the Nordic Track treadmill, you will see the differences right away.
So, good luck, and stay healthy!
