Not durable enough for competitive running

Written: Sep 02 '05
Pros:cheap, nice console, easy to use
Cons:durability, construction
The Bottom Line: If you're a walker or jogger, go for it. Competitive runners beware, it will fall apart.

I bought the c2200 7 months ago to use in the winter season for marathon training. Overall, I think it would be a good machine for the average user. My wife enjoys jogging on it a few times a week and has no complaints whatsoever. However, when pushed a little harder, I noticed problems with the c2200 right away.

After about an hour at 7 minute pace (8.5mph) the entire belt and deck heat up and begin to slip. Tightening the belt mid-workout helps some, but when the workout is finished and the machine cools the belt will be too tight. Also, if you run longer than 99 min 99 sec you will notice the machine shuts down and has to be restarted (which can be surprising the first time it happens).

Noise is fairly decent, but can get very loud the faster you run. The motor is strong and quiet but the deck makes a lot of noise when you run.

The console is sturdy while walking or slow running, but at higher speeds it shakes around a lot. At these speeds it would be impossible to have a book on the "book holder" because of the shaking. In general the controls are easy to use, and the one button speed change is nice.

The deck has been my other major issue. During a recent long run, at the 20th mile the deck (aka walking board) snapped in half, and I nearly fell off. Nordic Track was really great about sending me another one (1 yr warranty still in effect), and they told me a 3yr warranty is available for $119, which I will probably take advantage of.

In general, I would recommend this treadmill for a walker or jogger, but not for anybody who trains regularly at fast paces or for long runs. While the motor is certainly capable of 10-12mph, I just don't think Nordic Track meant this machine to be able to handle a person running that fast for any significant length of time.
