Pros: great design, easy to use, hit of the party
Cons: a little heavy and a little pricey
The Nordic Ware Castle Bundt Pan is a cake pan that is made in the United States. The pan measures 9.8 X 9.8 X 4.4 and weighs a wopping 2.4 pounds. This pan can hold up to a ten cup recipe. This pan has a non stick black finish. When this pan first hit the market it was running $40.00. Now with a little research you can find it for about $25.00.
Nordic Ware comes with a 10 year warranty. You will find more information at www.nordicware.com or call 1-877-466-7342.
The pan comes with a small piece of cardboard which shows you a picture of the finished castle. There is also a recipe for a Coconut Pound Cake as well.
There is only four instruction on this cardboard piece. The first instruction is to wash the pan before you use it with a soapy rag, nothing more. The second instruction is to brush with vegetable shortening and dust with flour before every use. The other option is to use a non stick spray. The third instruction is that mixes and recipes will vary so only fill the pan 3/4 of the way full. The last instruction is that when you clean this pan you should never use scouring pads or harsh abrasives since this is a non-stick pan.
There are many possibilities to this cake pan. You can decorate it and make it look like a castle and serve it that way. You can also put it on a large sheet cake to help tell a story. Either way this cake will make you the hit of the party.
I have used this pan twice now and the cake comes out a little different each time. The directions you get with the pan is very thin. This pan has a lot of small crevices that need to be spayed with non stick spray or whiped with shortening. If you miss a nook you will have problems getting the cake to release from the pan.
I use a non-stick spray and double check to make sure it has covered every inch of the pan. I also use a very basic bundt cake recipe and never have a problem with filling issues.
The pan is a little heavier than a traditional cake pan and makes handling a little harder. Make sure your pan is level in the oven to prevent a lopsided cake.
I would recommend this cake pan to all who cook. It is not just a cake for kids but for grown ups as well. As long as you grease pan thoroughly you will have a great cake. This cake will make you the hit of any party or event. The price on the cake pan is starting to come down so watch for sales.
