| Naomi7835's Full Review: Nordic Ware Wildflower Shaped Cake Pan |
Whenever I bake in my new Nordic Ware Wildflower cake pan, it makes me feel like it's Spring in my kitchen, even though it's still Winter outside. I purchased this cake pan at Boscovs. Usually every week Boscovs has a coupon in the paper with discounts from 10% to 50% off of certain items in the store. I wanted to check out some of their sales, and of course take a look in their housewares department also. I picked up a few good bargains in the clothing department. Then off to the housewares department I went. This is when I saw the Nordic Ware Wildflower Shaped Cake pan for $29.99. I really didn't want to spend that much for a cake pan. So I took the pan and my coupon to the cashier to see what my discount would be. She rang it up and I did get 20% off the price. I paid $23.99, which was a little better than $29.99.
WHY I BOUGHT THIS PARTICULAR CAKE PAN:
In March I have 4 Birthdays. My youngest son and 3 grand daughters Birthdays. My 10 year old grand daughter loves anything with flowers on it. She has a lot of accessories in her room, from throw pillows, knick knacks, pictures, right down to her flowered bed spread. So when I first saw the Nordic Ware Wildflower Shaped Cake, pan I immediately thought of her. My daughter in law always makes her a Birthday cake for our family gathering, and I always volunteer to make a cake for her Birthday sleepover party that she has either a few days before or a few days after her Birthday with some of her friends.
A FEW FEATURES:
1)---Non Stick finish
2)---10 cup capacity
3)---Size is 11 inches x 8½ inches x 2½ inches
4)---Durable heavy duty cast aluminum
5)---Has a variety of different Wildflower shapes with sharply designed details
6)---Comes with a Spring Bouquet Cake recipe
7)---Made in USA
I've baked 2 cakes so far in the Nordic Ware Wildflower Shaped Cake pan. I made the Spring Bouquet Cake recipe that came with the cake pan, which turned out fine. I also made a Lemon cake from a 18.25 oz. boxed cake mix. The pan is just the right size to use any of the boxed cake mixes from the supermarkets.
MAKING THE CAKE
After washing out the pan well and drying it, I applied my Wilton Cake release over the bottom and sides of the pan. I like to use this cake release for greasing my pans. It works well and makes the cake release very easy from the pan. You can use a vegetable spray or shortening to grease the pan with also, along with a light dusting of flour. There's nothing more frustrating than trying to remove a cake that's stuck in the cake pan. That's why it's very important to grease a cake pan, especially a pan like this Nordic Ware Wildflower pan that has many crevices in it.
I followed the directions on the box and after 35 minutes of baking time my Lemon cake was finally done. I placed the cake on my cooling rack and let it cool for 15 minutes. Then I gently shook the pan until I felt the cake loosen up. Once it had loosened up I then inverted it on a cake board. I don't have a platter that will accommodate a large, oddly sized cake, so I do like to use cake boards and have also used a few times a piece of cardboard covered in foil to invert my cakes onto.
When I make this Wildflower cake for my grand daughter in March I plan on inverting it into my portable 13x9 cake pan that also has a cover. Being the cake is a tad smaller than the portable cake pan I know it will fit nicely into the pan. Then I can carry it to her party without messing up the cake.
THE CAKE'S APPEARANCE:
Around the 4 sides of the cake there is a pointed design that sort of resembles a picked fence. The raised part on the flowers bakes a slightly darker golden color, which makes the flowers really stand out over the lighter background of the cake.
The cake really looked great just the way it came out. But you can put a glaze over the whole cake or just apply a light dusting of powdered sugar. The pattern design of the cake is really outstanding looking, it really doesn't require any further decoration. When you put the cake on a platter or a cake board, it would be nice to arrange an assortment of fresh fruit all around the outside of the cake. You could use strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, grapes, or some orange sections. What a refreshing treat this would make for a summer gathering or a party.
I wanted to experiment with a little decorating. So I mixed up several colors of frosting and with my decorating bag and tips, an went over and filled each flower design very carefully with the frosting. It took a little while to do this, but it was well worth the time and effort. The different colors of the flowers made the cake look like a Springtime field of flowers. I even heard a few oohs and aahs from my husband when he first saw the decorated cake.
Now you can also decorate the detailed flowers on this Nordic Ware Wildflower cake with a Cake Mate frosting that comes in a tube, which is available in supermarkets, or you can just leave the cake plain.
The designs on this Nordic Ware Wildflower cake pan come out very sharp and clean, because the designs on the pan are cast rather than stamped into the pan. You can make this fancy cake without a lot of fuss and it will come out perfectly formed all the time.
One feature that I do like about this Nordic Ware Wildflower cake pan is that it has a 1½ inch extended handle on both ends of the cake pan, which makes it easy to grab onto and lift out of the oven.
The cake pan can also be used to make other things, like breads, molded salads, gelatins or desserts.
USE AND CARE:
1)---Wash out the cake pan before using it for the first time.
2)---You may have to lower your oven temperature because of the dark interior of the pan. I usually always lower my oven temperature at least 25 degrees.
3)---After baking always let the pan cool for 15 minutes before attempting to invert the cake.
4)---Metal utensils or scouring pads, or abrasive cleaners should never be used on the non stick surface of the pan. I've found that soapy water and a soft sponge was all that I needed to clean and remove any baked on cake particles.
5)---This Nordic Ware pan should only be washed out by hand.
6)---Always grease and flour the pan before each baking use.
WARRANTY:
The Nordic Ware pan comes with a lifetime Warranty. It warrants to be free of defects in material and workmanship. It will not cover any damage from misuse, such as scratching of the non stick surface, or overheating.
MY FINAL THOUGHTS:
I'm satisfied the way the Nordic Ware Wildflower Shaped Cake pan has performed for me. It's non stick surface and the unique design of the pan creates a beautiful detailed cake every time. It'll make a nice looking cake for a bake sale, party or just a nice centerpiece to grace any table. I can't wait to see my grand daughters reaction, when she sees all of the colored flowers and the finished results of her sleepover Birthday cake.
As usual thanks for reading!
