| philips949's Full Review: Philips Quadra 6885 XL Electric Shaver |
Overview:
The Norelco 6885XL has great performance and reliability. I have had this shaver for several years now and it has performed as new the entire time. This is my third Norelco shaver in 40 years of shaving. I had some others but each Norelco has lasted me at least 10 years. Few products can hope to work so well for so long.
Features and Performance:
The features of this model make it more appealing than lower Norelco models. The primary reason I bought this model was the top of the line heads for a fast close shave. I tried the lower end Norelco models and they also shave quite well. The 6885XL does just a little bit better due to the head design. The shaver did take a little getting used to as it shaves very close. I had to use it very lightly the first few days which meant it took a little longer to shave. Now that I am used to it, my shave time is faster than with my old Norelco. I tried several other shavers and although each claims to shave the best I found the best resukts with Norelco.
Key Features:
This shaver cleans with water (very easy) and comes with a brush as well. I rarely use the brush and a strong rinse is enough to clean the heads. There is a little faucet icon on the display indicating when it needs to be rinsed. After a minute or so of rinsing the icon disappears. I usually leave the shaver open for the day to let it dry out. I found that if you shave with wet heads it is harder to get a close shave.
Works as cordless or with a cord and the power in cordless mode is just as strong as when plugged in. I found some shavers seemed much weaker in cordless mode.
The LED display shows how much shaving time is left. I think this feature is good as with most rechargeable items its better to run through a full charge cycle to extend battery life. A full charge is indicated in about 1 hour giving you 45 minutes of cordless shaving.
Cordless power remains consistent all the way through the charge cycle and does not get weaker on your last few shaves.
You can get an optional auto adapter which can be handy if you are on the road a lot.
The bottom line is that this shaver is worth every penny as it will last many years and give close comfortable shaves throughout its life.
Nice case will last and protects the shaver well when traveling.
Very quiet operation.
Comfortable to hold.
Conclusion and closing comments:
The only thing I found annoying was the sideburn trimmer really does not get all the bristles so you have to use the main shaving head to get very close to the trim line for a perfect shave. Not a big deal but my older Norelco did this slightly better.
Overall I am very pleased with this shaver and would buy the same model again. This is based on my experience with this and older Norelco shavers that I have had in the past.
