Pros:Durable, variety, unique, can mix & match
Cons:silverware can leave marks on the cream color
The Bottom Line: Variety and the ability to mix and match... this is a great set for someone looking for something different.
I've been married for over 5 years now, but I can remember going to several stores including Macy's (back then it was Hudson's) to pick out our "fine China". Those who know me, know I'm not a fine china kind of person. The choices were overwhelming and we searched for quite a while. I was looking for a modern style that would give a slight country feel. So, when I found the Noritake Colorwave collection I fell in love. I have to say I absolutely love these dishes!
This Review
You will not find specifics necessarily about the actual dishes in this review (I will be doing those under each specific dish). Instead, I am reviewing the 4 piece setting (since that's the item we are under here).
The Colorwave Collection
From the Macy's Website Mix and match these splashes of color for a tabletop with endless possibility! The modern coupe shape and two-tone hues mean this dinner plate will bring life to any décor. Select pieces in your favorite shades to create a customized dinnerware collection.
The Noritake Colorwave Dinnerware Collection has a unique design made to coordinate with pretty much any color kitchen. The Colorwave Collection is fine enough to use for fancy meals as well as durable enough for everyday use. These are the only dishes we have in the house and they definitely get their use. They are very durable - after five years of use, I have not noticed any chipping or other damage. We have lost only one cup to breakage. The only thing someone may object to; when you cut on the dishes in leaves a grayish mark. These fade after being washed. A few of our plates do have permanent lines on them. This does not bother me... as I said these are our everyday dishes. They are also microwave and dishwasher safe. I've even briefly used them in the oven with no problems.
The Colors
On the main pieces, the bottom of each piece is the Colorwave color, which is a solid color with grayish speckling to give it a country feel. You can see the Raspberry in the picture above. Noritake makes this collection in 12 different colors. The pieces coordinate so well you could actually mix and match the colors depending on your kitchen colors. The tops of the main pieces are a off-white/cream color.
The Four Piece Set
The Noritake Colorwave four piece set is a great idea for gift giving as well as stocking up. We registered for twelve of these sets and received eight. Some of the advantages of purchasing in a set is... well the come packaged in a set. You can just pick it up (or have it shipped) and wrap it up. The other advantage, especially when just starting your dishware collection is you can make sure you have the same amount of each dish, not 4 plates, 2 bowls and 10 cups.
The Dishes
What is in this set:
1 Dinner Plate
1 Cereal Bowl
1 Cup
1 Salad Plate
You will notice that since this is a four-piece set there is no saucer included. Personally, I think this is good since we would not use them or have space for them. The cups stand alone very well, but you can purchase saucers individually if you choose.
Overall
I love this set and I greatly recommend any newly engaged couple look it over as a choice for you home. Buying them together in a set insures you have an equal amount of each piece. Then you can purchase extras as needed.
