Pros: MAKES ICE, 1 GALLON WATER RESERVOIR, ABOUT 25 POUND ICE CONTAINER
Cons: COST, 90 DAY WARRANTY, NOISY
Nostalgia Products Group, LLC Retro Series Ice Making Machine having a gallon liquid capacity offers a handy, countertop appliance for creating nearly 30 pounds of ice per day.
Evocative of the trendy, transportable 1950s diners ice makers this attractive appliance with lift off lid, red exterior and feet to keep the appliance up off the countertop itself this handy
This attractive, retro type ice cube maker designed for home or other casual setting is moveable, handy and convenient. Intended for on counter usage and measuring 11.5 x 12 x 14.25 inches this small machine can be tucked into a small space to accompany other appliances in the office, kitchen or home bar setting.
To use: plug Retro Series Ice Maker into electric source, fill liquid reservoir with water, ice maker will begin turning out small, medium or large cubes in about 15 minutes and continues until compartment is filled. Machine will stop making cubes when bin is full, and will resume when the compartment is emptied and will continue until reservoir is emptied.
An easy to use push-button control turns unit on and off, and another allows selection of small to larger cube production.
Husband and I do not use a lot of ice, however, during long, hot, Tornado Alley summers we do like a few ice cubes now and again to cool a glass of tea and such.
On the plus side the machine works well producing about 10 rounded cublets per cycle. And will fill the ice holding bin in a decent period of time.
Rather than leaving the machine plugged in and keeping ice chilled I allow machine to produce ice, remove ice, put ice into freezer and unplug machine.
Downside, machine is slow, and is somewhat noisy.
By choice I have never had a refrigerator with in door ice cube maker, Husband and I just don’t use enough ice to warrant such. Siblings have both had refrigerator freezers with indoor ice cube availability and have had repeated problems with same.
I have grown weary with making trays of ice during summer, and the Retro ice maker fills a need. I bought mine during a foray to local jumble shop, it cost far less than prices listed online or elsewhere, and I have been satisfied for two hot summer seasons and hope for the best for the one on the horizon.
Machine carries only 90 limited warranty, was new in box when I got it, and warranty is long since expired.
I only use during the summer, generally make ice during late evening when temps have cooled a bit, and do not have machine keep producing ice on an ongoing basis.
I feel I have gotten my money’s worth from the purchase, however most online sites indicate a much more expensive outlay than I spent, and I would not buy the machine for the prices I see listed on online sites.
I will look for another portable ice making appliance when this one dies, but do hope to get one more season from it before it does.
Happy to recommend with caveat : 90 DAY warranty, cost and I cannot find replacement parts or contact information should problems arise, when this machine dies I will not look for another of this brand.
