| dasylu21's Full Review: NovaForm Elite-Isotonic Memory Foam Mattress Toppe... |
We bought our Novaform mattress topper at Costco yesterday. It came with a nice quality quilted cover filled with microfiber. I unpacked the Novafom pad and it was very flat with deep folds. I let it decompress, turning it every hour upside down. Twice I left the windows open for about 30 min. There was a mild odor, that disappeared quickly. In one afternoon the topper had decompressed evenly. The upper and lower edges were still slightly flat, but I don't sleep on the very edges, so I don't care and I even think that is probably normal from manufacturing. When the topper had decompressed I zipped it into its cover. The cover is machine washable and has elastic fabric on its underside, so that its depth fit perfectly over our standard mattress. It stayed in place all night. The size (length x width) fit our full size mattress exactly.
I think tonight I will place our old cotton mattress pad on top of the microfiber pad, because last night it was too warm from underneath. We keep our bedroom cool (65 degrees). We'll probably also exchange our thick winter goose down duvet for a thinner summer comforter. I was surprised, that the other reviewers did not mention heat retention in their reviews. Maybe it could be due to the new microfiber quilted cover? This would definitely be an advantage if you were camping in Alaska...
I read in another review, that you should turn the pad clockwise every three months and then after another three months flip it over. I will definitely do that, it makes a lot of sense since the foam pad has 2 equal sides. That way one avoids overusing the foam in one area.
I slept wonderfully on the soft but at the same time firm pad/mattress combination. No more back pain or aching joints. I especially noted the wonderful feeling of my heels being cradled by the softness of the foam...it was like sleeping on a cloud.
I have looked into Tempurpedic mattresses, talked numerous times to their amazingly incompetent customer service reps and decided that I can buy 20 Novaform toppers for one tempurpedic mattress. If the heat issue doesn't get resolved, I can easily return the pad to Costco or throw it out. Much less risky than spending $ 2000-3000 for a Tempurpedic product and be stuck with it.
We have owned another Novaform twin size mattress topper for 1 1/2 years now and it also decompressed without problems and looks brandnew after all this time even with daily use. My mom, who has bad arthritis loves it. It came with a washable cloth cover (no microfiber) and it did not have the heat retention problem. We use it with a regular quilted cotton mattress pad.
