| botsybaby's Full Review: Noxzema Original Face Wash |
That's right, this has been making me tingle since I was 13 years old. It might be even longer than that, but I can safely say since 13. I won't leave my house without. I always brought it with me when I went over a friend's house, or on vacation. When I would spend the night over someone's for one night, I wouldn't want to bring the whole thing, just in case I left it there. I used to pack some into a little tupperware jar, which was about the size of a shot glass. Never leave home without it!
Noxzema Original Face Wash is the one product I just can't put down. Seriously, it's the only facial cleanser I will use. I have tried many, many facial cleansers and nothing beats Noxzema. Nothing even comes close. Not those stupid alcohol ladened pads, those damn apricot "rip-my-face-off" scrubs, or the creams.
My Skin Type
Some say skin type has a lot to do with what will work for you, so I figured I'd explain my skin type to give you an idea of what kind of results you will get.
My skin is not any one type. It's what you call "combination skin", which means I have both oily and dry patches. Noxzema works for both combination skin, oily skin, and dry skin. My mother has oily skin and it works great for her. My grandmother has dry skin and it works for her. How they do this, I'll never know. It's got to be the 7th wonder of the world or something.
How It Works-
In the winter, when I lived in New York my skin tended to be drier than usual. I would get patches of dry skin in the corners where my nose attaches itself to my face. That was sometimes from the cold weather, or from having a cold of my own. I would sometimes get flaky skin around the cheek bone area and sometimes even my forehead. This would only happen to me when I didn't wash my face every day, or tried another facial cleanser, but as soon as I washed my face with Noxzema my skin great again.
Now I live in Hawaii, and even though the climate has changed Noxzema still works with my skin. Since I've been living here dry skin has not been too much of a problem. In fact, it's kind of gone the opposite way, the way it did during the summers in New York. So, as many of you know, along with heat and humidity, pimple outbreaks occur.
Noxzema takes care of that problem as well. I find that it actually prevents pimples from forming, and when you goof up and forget to wash your face, or go to bed with your make-up on because you're too tired or lazy, you will get a pimple, and Noxzema will then combat that pimple. It actually medicates. It doesn't just say it does this or that. It gives you results that you can see and feel.
I was never really a person with a pimple problem. I never experienced acne. I was lucky. Although, on the other hand my brother had quite a few pimples as a teenager. I wouldn't go as far acne, but he had his days. He was still quite popular with the girls, so the times he had break-outs didn't seem to effect him much. But he was always the shy type, and I'm sure it made him self-conscious. You can't tell him I ever said this, but he too used Noxzema and it helped him as well. I think he was one of those people that had a problem with the "T Zone". The "T Zone" is the area across your forehead, and down your nose to your chin. If you took a marker to outline the zone you'd have a T. This is where most people get pimples. On most people it is just naturally oilier there than any place else on your face. So, for you men out there reading this, it's not just for women, whether you'll admit it or not.
The Feel & The Smell
The feel of Noxzema isn't a bad one. You can feel it cleaning deep down. It makes your face tingle a bit. It makes your skin feel healthy. Your face will look clean and clear. Noxzema is greaseless and your face won't be greasy after using it either. When you first apply the Noxzema you will be able to smooth it over your skin. It's a white colored, creamy facial cleanser. It's thick too. I like that it's thick. I hate when a facial cleansers is thin and runny. It's like buying cheap shampoo that does not lather. So thicker is better.
It feels smooth as you spread it on your face. The first feeling you get is the coolness of it. It has that icy hot menthol thing going on. The next thing you'll notice is the the tingling. I will warn you though, if you have a cut on your face from the cat, falling down, severe sunburn, tweezing those eyebrows, or a tear in your skin from popping a zit with your daggers for nails, Noxzema will burn. I also recommend that you keep it away from your eyes. If you get Noxzema in your eyes, you'll know it.
Even though Noxzema can sometimes have the ability to burn, it still can help sunburn. I once spent a couple of weeks at my grandparents house during the summer, back when they and I lived in New York. I went to the pool almost every single day. I have very sensitive skin, and I'm rather fair as well. I am capable of tanning, but I am also very good at burning. Well, that summer I was burned to a crisp. Hanging at the pool, day in and day out, with no sunblock. I ended up with sun poisoning. I was as sick as a dog. I put the blankets up, I began to sweat. I kicked the blankets off, I immediately started shaking with chills. In between that I was taking cold showers and puking my guts up. One thing that did help me recover was Noxzema. It burned at first when I put it on my skin, but sometimes you have to inflict a little pain before you get relief. It cooled my skin down. It helped heal my sunburn faster, and prevented me from blistering. So that burning feeling isn't always a negative thing.
Noxzema has a very distinctive smell. It smells like medicine. I wouldn't say it's a bad smell, but I suppose it could be improved. I guess some kind of flower smell would be preferred. Although, with it's smell, it's certainly not something that men couldn't use. It has a unisex kind of smell. There's nothing girly about the smell. It has a vapor kind of smell to it. Kind of like Bengay or Vick's Rub. Only I don't think it's as severe as those, but it's the closest thing I could compare it to. To me Noxzema has a clean smell with a touch of medicine. The good thing is, the smell doesn't last forever and it fades away rather quickly. Such as, by the time I got up and got ready for school (back in the day), by the time I was done with my whole morning routine and waiting at the end of the driveway for the bus, the smell was gone. My boyfriend at the time didn't seem to mind the smell either.
Price-
Noxzema is something you can find in practically every drug store or grocery store. It costs me approximately $5.49 for a jar. The jar size I currently have right now is 10.75 Oz. (304 g). I live in Hawaii, everything is imported here, so it might be cheaper where you live, but one thing's for sure, it's worth every penny.
What The Company Says About Noxzema-
The company has great things to say about their product. Right on the front of the jar it says "Fresh Look....Same Great Product". They changed their logo a bit like Pepsi has done, but it's still the same great thing inside. On the side it says "Cleansing Cream" and a little below that it says "Camphor, menthol, eucalyptus". On the bottom it says "Deep Cleans, Dissolves Oil, Won't Overdry, Original Scent". Everything is true. On the back it says "Noxzema Original... That Noxzema Deep Clean You Can Feel... For clean, healthy skin, use greaseless Noxzema every time you wash instead of soap. You can feel Noxzema working as it deep cleans to remove dirt, oil, and make-up. The water-based formula with camphor, menthol and eucalyptus tingles and refreshes without overdry so your skin looks and feels fit. Beyond daily cleansing, try Noxzema to cool and soothe overheated skin." So, as you see, everything I was saying above is exactly what they say on their label.
Directions For Daily Use-
On wet or dry face, apply Noxzema generously. With fingertips or a wet washcloth, gently massage your face using a circular motion. Rinse Thoroughly.
My Directions
I always use a generous amount when I go to wash my face. I also apply when my skin is dry. It's what I prefer. I then take a washcloth and wet that instead of my face. What Noxzema doesn't say anything about is about what happens if you don't wash your face gently. I myself have a tendency to be rough when I wash my face. I guess it's just a habit, and not really a good thing. I highly recommend that those of you with oily skin wash your face gently. I'll tell you why too. See, you face is a lot like your scalp. If you scrub your scalp vigorously, or rub it for a long time, you will make your hair oily than it is. What happens is like both your scalp and face, when you rub them too much, or too roughly, you stimulate the oil glands, hence, making your skin or scalp oily. So refrain from doing that, I know it's hard.
You should also take the advice of Noxzema when it comes to washing in a circular motion. The reason they say this is because it is actually better for your skin. It causes the least amount of pulling. When you wash in an upward or downward motion you are pulling on the skin, and that tension on your skin could damage you skin (just think wrinkles). Now that's something you don't need.
