Pros: Looked to be well made, complex flavors, robust and hearty
Cons: The draw and burn left a little to be desired
The Bottom Line: The Nub Habano 460 is a robust, complex smoke made for smokers who like in your face flavor. Burn and draw were problems, and it was too strong for me.
I received the Nub Habano 460 in one of two Nub Samplers that I ordered from cigar.com, and although full bodied cigars aren't my cup of tea, I decided to man up and give this one a try. It was with no small amount of trepidition that I lit this one up and began smoking it. Allow me to tell you about it.
The Nub Habano 460 is 4 inches long and has a ring size of 60, which gives it a no-nonsense, almost menacing look. The flavor and body of this cigar is no-nonsense too, and I'll tell you about that in a moment.
The Nicagaraguan long fillers are snugly packed in an almost seamless dark brown Habano wrapper. The cigar felt firm and appeared to be very well put together. I detected no soft pockets throughout the short body of this stick, and it appeared to be another well constructed, quality product from the Oliva family.
When I first lit the cigar, the draw was free and easy, but the farther down I smoked it, the more difficult the draw became. The burn was very slow, and left a little to be desired as far as consistency was concerned. I really wasn't able to develop much ash throughout the smoke, and there was only a negligible amount that formed before it fell off into the tray. Although the aroma of this cigar was very good, I was less than impressed with the draw and the burn.
The flavors of the Nub Habano 460 are strong and complex, partly due to the Habano wrapper. I detected strong hints of coffee, chocolate, peat and pepper, and those flavors seemed to blend and balance well. The no-nonsense flavors of the Nub Habano 460 can best be described as up front and in your face, and that's really not what I'm looking for in a cigar. My preference is for light to mild cigars with subtle flavor nuances, but that's not what I got with this version of the Nub.
I recommend this one for the seasoned cigar smoker who likes a robust, full-bodied smoke. The issues I had with the draw and the burn might arise from humidification problems in shipping, but I'll probably not sample another Nub Habano 460 to see if that's the case. Maybe another cigar aficionado will read this review and post a different experience.
