Pros:Easy set-up and software, good export options.
Cons:Audio quality with the included needle isn't great.
The Bottom Line: A cheap, simple way to record your vinyl to your computer, good sound with an upgraded cartridge.
We had an absolutely massive vinyl collection of dance singles, going back well over 10 years, and recently decided to sell off the whole collection to an interested friend. There were many tracks that were rare or limited pressings, and we wanted to still have a copy of them. We checked out a few of these USB turntables, and opted for the Numark, as it was one of the only USB turntables on the market made by a company that specifically manufactures gear intended for DJ use. It has been a reliable unit for transferring vinyl to the computer. The software has worked pretty well, it was a little glitchy when doing multiple files, but we generally saved each track individually anyhow. One function of the software that was particularly useful were the export options: you can export your music to Wave, MP3, or the much smaller Vorbis OGG files. We did try to use the included headshell and cartridge, but the sound quality was rather poor, so we used our Ortofon needles for the tracks that we needed a good quality recording of. I would not hold the needle against the Numark, as a good needle will cost as much as the entire Numark unit did, I would just recommend using a better one if it is available.
