The Bottom Line: One of my favorites, this Nutribiotics Volumizing shampoo is mild yet effective at cleansing and offers up great manageability and comb out without dreaded flat hair.

My graying locks are waist length, oily but thinning at the scalp, porous and color-treated with bone dry ends. Sounds pretty awful but just this past weekend I got some lovely compliments on my "Cher-like" full, shiny and healthy tresses.
For the past 2 years I've been making my own from-scratch lotions, butters, creams, solid shampoos, conditioners and old-fashioned lye soaps with extras like shea butter, goat milk, acai berry, panthenol and more. But when I want to take a break, vary my hair care products, I like to use the Aussie, Citre Shine or this Nutribiotics line.
Nutribiotics Shampoo, Volumizing
As a formulator and RN, I've done rather a lot of research into both the helpful and not-so nice ingredients in hair and skin care products through websites like Paula's (cosmeticcop), another good one on ingredients from the makers of Alba lotions, and so on.
Laurel Sulfate (SLS) and Laureth Sulfate (SLES), are two inexpensive but high foaming detergents added to the vast majority of shampoos. Since these sulfates can be absorbed through the scalp, and I've had a lot of the 'itchy-scratchy' show whenever I use them, I am now a more careful label/ingredients reader than ever before.
Nutriobiotics uses no SLS or SLES in their shampoo range, but a milder primary surfactant, (combining water with hair oil to remove it) along with a even milder one, to provide fair foaming, gentle cleansing and wonder, of wonder, leave you hair in less than straw like condition...very important for dry or damaged hair.
But unlike 2-in-1 shampoos that include conditioner, the Nutribiotics Volumizing Shampoo does not weigh down thinning or fine hair, giving a case of the dreaded flat head. Nourishing herbal extracts, soy protein, pro-vitamin B5, (aka panthenol) add shine, strengthening and body while you also get both improved wet comb out and decreased flyaways/static electricity.
The natural acidic mantle of both hair and skin is between 5.0-6.0 on the pH scale, and both citric acid and grapefruit seed extract serve to ensure a pH balanced product and healthy scalp. The paraben-free preservatives are likewise gentle but effective.
I paid less than $6.50 for a huge, 16 ounce bottle, which comes in a sturdy, recyclable plastic contain with flip-top cap. The 'poo itself is lightly scented with a non-perfumey fresh fragrance blend. I like it better than Biolage but a bit less than the original Aussie Mango.
For long hair it takes about a quarter-sized dollop of this slightly thick liquid, and I noticed the gentle suds easily rinsed out even in the lukewarm rinse water I prefer using. The comb out wasn't fraught with the usual snarls from the SLS, SLES degreasers, and I only needed a bit of conditioner on the very ends.
Even with oily scalp, I could go 3 to 4 days between shampoos, without any rash, dandruff or itchy sensation. The top of my hair was a bit fuller, with more volume/lift and once dried, the overall effect was very full, without bushy, hair.
Final Thoughts And Recommendation
Nutribiotics makes 3 very good shampoos and coordinating conditioners..I like and use all 3. This Volumizing type is good for dry, normal, color treated and thinning/fine/flat hair and isn't too shabby for my oily scalp problem as well.
I really appreciate how my hair feels clean yet not stripped, and that Nutribiotics chooses to use many of the same botanical extracts, hair healthy vitamins and conditioners (soy protein and polyquat-10) that don't cause the same sort of over-time product build-up as silicones.
4 stars for a very good value, wholesome product with noticeable results. Also recommended: Everyday Clean Shampoo (for oily hair) and Nourishing Shampoo (for very dry/porous/brittle/overprocessed hair).
