Dogs love to chew; they need to chew in order to ward off boredom and keep teeth and gums healthy. This sometimes problematic endeavor has as many sides as dogs out there, as every dog approaches chewing a little differently. It is up to us, as their guardians to keep them engaged in proper chewing keeping them both engaged and healthy. Often that entails circulating a variety chew toys even it means keeping them on a shopping list if it keeps them chewing. Nylabone is one of many companies that have emerged as a source of durable toys that dogs gravitate to much like their Double Action Chew.

The Double Action Chew is available in three sizes, Regular, Wolf and Souper (yes,Souper). The Double Action Chew addresses couple of issues with our Golden Retrievers, healthy chewing and the instinctual need to carry a retrievable object in their soft mouths. The Double Action Chew is constructed like most of Nylabone's products of durable nylon impregnated with an inviting minty flavor that helps keep them attracted to it.
Measuring just under 7.5 inches, the Wolf sized Double Action Chew has a 2 ¾" rubber center section approximately 1.5 inches in diameter, which is perfect for our Golden Puppy. That center has small nubs that aid in rubbing tooth surfaces. The 2" ends both feature a five sphere configuration with hard nylon nubs that scrape more so than the center nubs. While Golden's are soft mouthed she attacks the Double Action Chew aggressively on both surfaces.
The question beckons, does it work and the answer is an advised yes. While Nylabones achieve the objective you do have to keep a watchful eye to assure your dog doesn't start ingesting larger chunks of the product. Our Golden is attracted to it and will initiate sessions of varied length and intensity but I have already seen signs of chipping, although minor, which won't pose a danger to your dog but this is the point where you really have to pay attention to this product. It does a magnificent job at keeping her teeth free from tartar thus helping eliminate tartar and calculus but you really don't want to keep it past is useful life.
We have a wide arsenal of chew products, both man made and organic including Kongs, flossy toys, deer antlers and weight bearing beef bones that all perform well and keep teeth healthy.
In summary, I suppose that the theme here is to assemble an array of good chew toys, keep it interesting and keep a watchful eye for the dangers associated with harmful ingesting. That said, I think Nylabone offers a great product in its Double Action Chew, and certainly one that I would replace when needed.
